I'm reviewing fist alpha and I need to take screenshots, but I can't figure out how to do so in the game. Anyone know if the game can? Or is there a freeware screenshot program?

You can always press Print Screen, then paste into an image editor.

yeah, but that's a real pain. I mean, I'll do that if it comes to it.

I'm not familiar with First Alpha, but typically you can never get print screen to work with 3D games.

awesome, the first one on the freeware list does it up fine, thanks! :)

Can't get print screen to work with 3D games? Uh, no. Pretty much evey game I've played the past few years have allowed me to use this key, 3D or otherwise. Though unless I'm trying to grab one additional shot, I use the screen grabber function in Paint Shop Pro. Works pretty much flawlessly, though there is usually one game in ten that gives me problems. Then it's back to the print screen key.

Yet Paint Shop Pro is not free, my friend. ;)

Really? I haven't done a review since 1999, so I guess that problem has been solved. I would have thought it would have been too low a priority to get fixed, but good deal. Use the PrtScn key, by all means.

I've been using SnagIt for years, which lets you take multiple screens and auto-renames them as you go, so you don't have to keep alt-tabbing out. It has a special setting to take pics in DirectX games (although you're locked into using the PrntScrn key, which is a pain if you're trying to get action shots.)

What I'd really love to find is a USB footpedal that can be mapped to the PrntScrn key. I'd just sit around and take screenshots all day. :)

Since win2k, it has worked with pretty much everything.

Geeze you wouldn't want it to have a music track with a thumpy beat.,

I suppose we could make a screenshot application for the PC Dance Pad...

They made a dance pad for the PC? Wouldn't it be cool if somebody made a giant monster game that used such a device?

Yeah, they make 'em. I got one from a Korean vendor at E3 a few years back that connects to the keyboard port. Works like a champ, too. :)

No one mentioned FRAPS? It does movies, too.

I was about to mention FRAPS. It works really, really well - though I did notice the mouse cursor doesn't show up on KOTOR movies that I tested.

The movie stuff is definitely cool - I took some 1024x768 movies and they work wonderfully. It's 1.5-2.0GB per minute but man it's very sharp :)
