We we're flipping around the ole satellite last night, trying to find something to watch, nothing worth watching, not in the mood for the DVD's we have rented from Netflix. On a whim, we tuned in to a Kung Fu parody movie called Kung Pow.

We expected to turn it off after about 10 minutes, but we watched the whole thing and cracked up for the entire movie. It's basically a couple of old Chinese martial arts movies, with a couple of characters inserted via digital, and the entire movie redubbed.

Think MST3K mixed with Airplane style humor. Some dumb parts, of course, but enough on-the-nose jokes to keep us laughing out loud. As in all of these style movies, it can get a bit thin at the end, but it was still a hoot. A great movie if you have the right attitude and friends in the room and are feeling silly.

BTW - watch until all the credits are finished for a little funny at the end.

I watched the first hour then got bored with it. SOme scenes like the main char getting the crap beat out of him in trying to imitate that 'evil master' dude was funny. I'm tired of the 'Matrix' bullet time ripoff shit. Its old.

Well, then you watched most of it (it was only about 1:20.) Hey, the bullet time joke was just one 5 second joke in the whole movie.

The ending was weak. But I still cracked up at a lot more of the flick than I expected, as did the people watching with me. Like I said - you have to be in the mood and with the right people. Lots of quick throw-away lines that some will crack some folks up and not others (e.g., when the dog barked, and the bark sound came a couple of seconds later a la the rest of the overdubbing, my friend fell out of his chair, while we just laughed at him.)

If you're in a mood for an Airplane/Top Secret parody, it's a hoot.
