Is it possible?

My room is a bit too crammed for a TV, and the only reason I'd ever want one for anyway is to connect a console to.

Some monitors have component or S-video input; I haven't tried that way.

Previously, I ran the s video from my ps2 to my GF4's input, and then used the video capture utility they included. Looked great.

Well, for an XBox-only solution that supports HDTV modes, you can get this: http://www.x2vga.com

I have one of these, and it works great.

To connect all your consoles to a monitor, you can get something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067979486

A friend has an older version of this and says it works fine.

Sure, some video cards support TV-in. There are also standalone TV-in/tuner cards that accept television input. The quality is not as good as when using a VGA-box (for consoles that support VGA resolution in the first place), but they work just fine.

Viewsonic makes some items like that as well, including a model that is HD/Progressive capable. That one is pretty spendy, though, but it will give you the full 480p or 720p image which most cheap linedoublers won't.

Most the "VGA boxes" for consoles you see don't work like the Dreamcast's, the Xbox one linked above does, and there is a PS2 one that comes with a boot disk is supposed to be close.

Specifically, I want to connect a friends Gamecube, and possibly a PS2. I don't care that much about extra features as long as I get an image on the screen, so the bare basics needed to get it working are enough for me.

I think you can find cheapo universal VGA boxes that'll just convert any composite or S-Video signal plugged into it into VGA. Search ebay. Or try playasia and liksang.
