Talk about extreme overclocking. They brought in liquid nitrogen to cool the chip as they overclocked it to more than 5GHz.

Actually, maybe one of the Tech corps can answer this, but it seems like we've stalled out at 3GHz for a while. Any word on when Intel or AMD plan on pushing speeds up again? I imagine they're transitioning to .90 micron, but what's the road map say?

It appears they were going to try to hit 4 ghz by the end of 2004.

If it's going to take until the end of 2004 to hit 4GHz things have indeed stalled out. That should put a lot of pressure on prices.

Eh? Isn't the pressure on the prices when the new and faster chips are already out? If it does take until the end of 2004 for the next big step in computing then I see stable prices ahead.

Yeah, they wouldn't be likely to drop until everyone who can afford the latest, has one. Then they might drop the price so you'll get another.

No, because everyone who wants a machine within 1GHz or so of the top will have one...

In addition, I was conditioned to expect each new machine to be twice as fast (at least) as the old one. I'm not going to pay a big premium for a machine that's only 30-50% faster.
