You have 120 seconds to get the game developer to the airport to escape the frivolous lawsuit!!!

" "We don't know what they're going to replace it with," he said. "It could be 'Kill the Jews' or 'Kill the Italians.' ""
Nicely researched.
This is such a stupid lawsuit, although Rockstar really did bring it on themselves by capitulating so easily back at the start.

They also probably should have realized the perils, in today's society, of creating gangs identified primarily by cultural/racial identity. It never occured to me to be offended when playing Vice City, but given how ridiculously easy people get offended and sue these days, it probably should have been obvious.

I disagree with that. GTA3 and Vice City portray all the factions in the game as criminals because it's part of the game's fiction. There's no discrimination involved at all. If Vice City had portrayed the Cuban gangs as "nice" and the Haitians as "nasty" they may have had a case.
This is an utterly frivolous lawsuit. I'll be surprised if it doesn't fizzle out really quickly.

You misunderstand me. I was not arguing that the lawsuit has merit, I do not believe it does. I was not arguing that there was discrimination, I do not believe there is any. I was simply stating that it seems like creating gangs whose primary form of identification is cultural was bound to eventually piss off one of those cultural groups, in today's society, with predictable results.

Perhaps they did realize that something like this could happen, but also agreed internally that a nice frivolous lawsuit would only drive demand for the game even higher.
At what point will it just be made clear: you can't sue someone for offending you.

So what you're saying is that if you make it at all like real life, then you'll get sued? Sounds just like the country I know and love. I'm so glad the game I'm writing is set in space, in the far, far future...

Not really - you gave another group of society a chance to sue in your post - Criminals - this game discriminates against criminals... all criminals should sue - and as I'm sure we've all broken the law at least once - we should ALL sue. We'd all walk away with .. mm.. .25 cents?

That would seem to be the case, yes.

I smell a class action lawsuit...
