So I'm thinking about upgrading from a Geforce 4 4200 to the EVGA GeForce FX 5900. The free copy of CoD is very tempting and Firing Squad's review of the 5900 has been very positive. And you can't beat the price tag. THe card sells for less then $220.00 Also the 5900 is suspossedly better then the ATI 9600XT that I was first looking at, but I doubt that I'm going to purchase that card.

So is the Geforce FX 5900 a good investment? Will I be ready for Doom3, Half Life 2, etc...

*I just noticed that Ghost Recon is thrown in as well! :D

Thanks for the advice.

I'm also thinking about upgrading to a 2.8ns FX 5900. They have a reasonable price and should be significantly faster than 9600XT and 5700Ultra in general. It's not a good investment perhaps, but if you are going to waste money on a graphics card for gaming I guess it could be a lot worse.

Unless you're insanely picky about your AA quality, it's a good card, probably the best in its current price range.

I just picked up its little brother the eVGA 5900se. Some bench marks on my machine were 4x over my gf 4 4600.

It made Deus Ex:IW and Splinter cell playable. I think I'm in love with it.
