Got my mom a webcam for Christmas so she can see and talk to her grandson via DSL.

Though she once learned all the tricks to using Wordstar, nowadays she's got little patience for more complex apps.

So, any suggestions on an easy-to-use webcam chat app? Netmeeting's not bad, but she'd have to deal with my IP number and stuff. She's running XP on a notebook.

Last time I tried Yahoo Messenger the frame rates were abysmal.

You could try www.eyeballchat.com, it's basically a video IM. I only messed with it a little bit but seems easy to use.

What I'd really like to see is a service or platform that offers more than one on one video chats. Although I realize the serious technical/bandwidth hurdles to this, it would be cool.

I'll second Eyeball Chat. When my wife was in Japan for several weeks last year, it was the most reliable of the various video conferencing services. It also required the least amout of hassle in getting it set up to work through the router and firewalls on the computers.
