My computer is gaging lately on applications it handled well before (gotic 2). I tried looking into it but couldn't find anything obvious. I then remembered that I read somewhere that when a CPU heats it slows down so I thought to check that out. I installed speed fan ad this is what I got:

Fan1 0 rpm Temp1: 38C
Fan2 4688 rpm Temp: -32C
Fan3 0 rpm Temp: 17C
Temp2: 0C
Temp3: 0C

Anybody knows what this means and if it ok?

-32C is definitely not good, since that's way the heck below freezing.

Methinks you might want to reconfigure speedfan?

You need to get the right temp monitor for your motherboard. For example, I run an MSI Mbd with a P4 2.6C. Normal load (not playing a game) temps are:

Chassis Temp: 27C
CPU Temp: 37C
CPU Fan: 2700 RPM.

When playing Morrowind my CPU temp will get near 50C for hours at a time....

If you haven't already, you might want to do a thorough check for viruses. Some can have quite dramatic performance impacts, depending on your configuration.

I'll do that today.

Other then that, is it Ok that the RPM value for the fan corresponding with the 32C temp is zero. Doesn't it suppose to be working?

Go get MotherBoard Monitor 5 ... that's pretty good for Temp Detection.

http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ <-- linky!

-If you are concerned about heat take the side off your case, get an ordinary desk fan and get it to blow air into the case.. see if that helps keep it cool.
- Check for dust in the heatsink... dust + heatsink = .. you can get cans of compressed air designed to blow this crap out.
-Make sure that your fan is on properly... ie, not hanging off. ( I've had that happen before)
-check to see if all fans are working.
-install new fans... your case should have a few spaces for some,( I'm just about to install a "blow hole" in the top of my case to expell hot air , just because summer is coming (oz!).. )

If none of that works.. then heat may not be your problem... and you'd want to start looking in the task manager for things that shouldn't be there.

Virus scan - check :D
MBM5 says that two of my fans aren't working. So I'll look into this.
Thanks.

Do those two fans actually have the ability to report RPM? . .
I've got 3 fans in my case ( a bottom, a back and a blowhole ) .. and none of them report speeds... even my CPU fan doesn't report a speed.. because my motherboard is a cheap piece of shit and doesnt' support it...
I actually have no clue on how to check this... it was just a thought I had.

I don't know. I look it up now.

I got a reply from Asus (only took one day :D). My mobo can report all three fans, and also comes with a monitoring utility. Apparantly two fans really don't work.

Fan connectors need three wires to report rpm, so if your fans have connectors with only two wires you're out of luck.

It turns out you were right. The fans were working properly. I looked some more and found out that the computer sometimes didn't recognize one of the memory sticks thinking it had only 256mb ram instead of 512 (this explains the stuttering I think, since I was playing gothic2 which seems to like memory). I kinda figured that it's either the one of the sticks or the motherboard. I decided that this is beyond my technical skill and brought the damn thing to a repair shop. I sat there for five days including the weekend
When I came there the repairman claimed that there was nothing wrong saying that he sprayed the memory sockets with some shit. At least he didn't charge me.
So I took the computer home, and now I am waiting for it to happen again. I feel like taking a a car with some noise from the engine to the mechanic, only to have the noise dissapear while he is checking it, and of course returning once you get home.
thanks for the help all.
