I've been giving it some thought, but I also wanted to subscribe to the Journal of Small Wars & Insurgencies too.

Oh lame. I thought this was going to be a resurgence of the original Journal of Computer Game Design. Now that I think about it the title should have tipped me off, what exactly would articles in a journal about Game Development (as opposed to design) be about? Royalties and licensing, or building a team or some such I imagine.

Looking at the editorial board of this journal, it's clearly not going to be about royalties and building a team.

At the same time, looking at the editorial board of this journal, there is no way I can take it seriously. And here I paste in some observations from a private email thread...

They have an editorial board full of notable names. None of them seem to be game developers though....

And then...

Yeah, the same publisher owns "Journal of Quantum Electrodynamics," edited by Jerry Bruckheimer, Barbra Streisand, Matt Groening, and Al Gore.

Oh it's a game programming journal. Well that could be useful. It looks like they have been planning this for a while too: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2002-12-26-game-journal_x.htm

I guess now all those grad students writing their CS thesises on game programming related subjects will have their own journal. And we can finally catch up to the Japanese: http://www.cs.inf.shizuoka.ac.jp/~iida/CGRI/
