View Full Version : Things to do in Sweden?

Since you guys were able to help me out when I was sent to London, I figured I'd see if you had any tips for Sweden. I'll be out there all next week in Ronneby, which apparently isn't large enough to rate an entry in Fodors or any other guide I can lay my hands on. Hopefully this trip will be less of a disaster than London, and I might actually have some free time to take advantage of. Evening activities and dining are probably of the most interest to me, with Christmas shopping a close second.
(Hmmm. Same requests as I had last time. Food and shopping. I must be boring.)
Thanks in advance, and since I have more than 48 hours notice I might be able to reply this time.

Here are some swedish phrases, courtesy of my delinquent youth.
Du er den vackraste flicka jag sett. (you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen)
Vill du ha lite glass? (would you like some icecream?)
Jag har en tio tums kuk! (I have a 10-inch c^ck!)

Why are you going to Ronneby? I doubt Ronneby is the place to go christmas shopping.
Here is a link to Roonebys tourism board: http://www.ronneby.se/turist/english/
I guess you could go to Copenhagen if you have a whole day free. Otherwise Blekinge, where Ronneby is situated, is mostly known for it's inbreeding.

I was stuck in Ronneby for two weeks when I was in the military. It is a very dull place, unfortunately, and the best idea is probably to take a bus to Karlskrona. Karlskrona is not exactly a metropolis either, but you might find some shops there, and the city is nicer as well. If you can, you should probably follow Johan's advice though (and go to Copenhagen).

Drink.
Swedes have access to some of the best alcohol on the planet. They're right by Finland, Poland and Russia for vodka, very close to Czech and Polish beers (as well as the other, more well-known nations of beer), close enough to the wine countries... Oh oh oh... make sure to try some Bavarian wines. Good stuff.

Since we're approaching christmas, I suggest you try to find a nice restaurant that serves christmas dinner, "julbord" is the swedish word for it. Be sure to find a nice restaurant though, because the quality varies wildly.

How do I say: "I am a filthy rich American with a huge penis and the stamina of a Bull?"

[Ronneby] is a very dull place
Ronneby is very famous for its hoopy casinos but beset by a evil disease.

As it turns out I'm mistaken, and while I'm flying into Ronneby/Kallinge Airport, I'm astually staying in Karlskrona while I meet with people from Ericsson. My hope is that this will be mostly 9 to 5, but my co-workers who have been on this sort of trip before are not encouraging. At least I won't have to worry about getting too much sun while I'm there.
Is there any reason to prefer Copenhagen over Stockholm for a day trip, other than proximity? It looks like I may be able to schedule my return flight for Sunday, leaving Saturday free for me to explore. I've never been to either city, so I'm just as happy to visit one as the other.

Yep. Copenhagen has a fountain of the little mermaid, dedicated to Hans Christian Anderson. Stockholm has the Kaknas Television tower, Scandinavia's tallest man-made structure.

You should pick me up a copy of the Concretes' latest CD. $28 just seems like a lot to pay for an import from Amazon...

I think Copenhagen might be nicer for a one-day visit.
Swedes seem to have issues.

As much as the engineer in me likes tall man-made structures, and the gamer in me relates to people with issues, I think I will end up visiting Copenhagen. Now I just need to find a Danish phrase book to go with my Swedish one.

If you're into old buildings and fancy restaurants with very good food, Stockholm has something that's called 'gamla stan' (literally old city), with one of the best restaurants I've ever been to called 'Fem små hus". (Five little houses).
The weather is shitty in both Stockholm and Copenhagen this time of year, so why not put food as a top priority?
