Mythic is also working on a Roman MMOG, but it's Romans of the spacefaring future.

Wait wait wait...

Let me get this straight. The game is called Imperator. It continues the Pax Romana (a distinctly Imperial Rome state of affairs), and yet it's a "star-spanning Roman Respublica"?

Tsk tsk. My Classics professor would have torn into Mythic for the length of the lecture for these mistakes.

Your Classics professor would be wrong, if they really spelled it "res publica". Res publica just means "state" ("public affairs" really), the term was retained throughout the "empire" and used by the emperors themselves. The "empire" vs "republic" distinction was made up by modern historians, the Romans themselves didn't have it.

From Websters:

\Im`pe*ra"tor\, n. [L. See {Emperor}.] (Rom. Antiq.) A commander; a leader; an emperor; -- originally an appellation of honor by which Roman soldiers saluted their general after an important victory. Subsequently the title was conferred as a recognition of great military achievements by the senate, whence it carried with it some special privileges. After the downfall of the Republic it was assumed by Augustus and his successors, and came to have the meaning now attached to the word emperor.

I'm not working on it personally, but I'd probably be able to go a few rounds with your Classics prof.
