Take Two has shut down the studio behind Bully and Max Payne 3. Details (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/173824/Max_Payne_3_developer_Rockstar_Vancouver_closing_i ts_doors.php). They have offered jobs to the team members at Rockstar Toronto, though I imagine not everyone would be willing to move from one side of the country to another.

Oh wow, no idea this was Barking Dog.

Anyway, Max Payne 3 is Rockstar's best game ('cept for maybe RDR), so that's a shame.

More bad news in what has already been a cruel, cruel summer for the game industry.

Best wishes to all caught out for a speedy return to the workforce.

No, Bully, which this studio made, is Rockstar's best game.

Looking through their history, I noticed a strategy game they made based on Treasure Planet, the Disney movie. I seem to recall a pretty good review of the game in CGW. Has anyone played it?

I have! It was decent. $11 on Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/Treasure-Planet-Battle-at-Procyon-Pc/dp/B00006LIQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341942879&sr=8-1&keywords=treasure+planet%3A+battle+at)

Actually, a Google search of the game and CGW turns up this thread (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=1109) as the search result.

One of those forgotten good games, it appears.

+1

Bully was just sheer joy all the way through.

The "spinoffs" of the precursor to Rockstar Vancouver, Barking Dog, which include Ironclad and Kerberos make for a heck of a legacy for space fans at least.

Eh, maybe it's PR spin but can you really call this "shut down", if they're offering to relocate everyone? And if MP3 had sold better, would this not have happened?

So, will they even bother to support MP3-mp now.. or just let it die out?

The location is still being shut down effectively. It's not like everyone will be able or willing to move to Toronto, e.g. people with families.

Well, based on the credits it would seem that the multiplayer part wasn't developed in Vancouver though.

Guess I should quit holding out hope for a sequel to Bully, then.

38 Studios allegedly relocated all the employees in the company tab and and look where those employees ended up...

In an awesome city that seems to have lots of developers that's where! Plus who doesn't wanna live in Canada, just guard your BBQ chips and you should e fine.

This is the sequel. You can say Rockstar Vancouver was Bullied by its corporate American overlord.

If you live in Vancouver you don't want to move to that cess pool Toronto ;) Hope they all land on their feet though.
