OK, this is an experiment in consensual self-governance, aka the inmates run the asylum now and even crazy people need a place to blow off steam.

So as all us old-timers know, the old Bananas and Nuts (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=51849&highlight=bananas) thread, once upon a time, was the only place that bans could be discussed. That thread devolved into mud-slinging of the first order, resulting in general complaints to Tom Chick, erstwhile moderator of this board. So we entered the Phase of Silence (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?p=2471365#post2471365), in which all ban discussion had to go straight to Tom.

This appeared to be rather like screwing down the lid of a pressure cooker for certain hotheaded individuals, resulting in the atomic steam explosion of the (current, as I write this) "Avatars? (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=66299)" thread, truly a thread that will live in infamy. As a result of that, Tom evidently decided he was too personally involved, and is taking a break (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showpost.php?p=2830986&postcount=1168) from being the living room moderator (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?p=2827937#post2827937).

So now if there's gonna be any law around here, we're gonna have to make it ourselves.

One thing I think we damn near all agree on is that there are two topics on any forum: 1) what idiots some other forum members are, and 2) everything else. The old Bananas and Nuts thread, and the new Avatars? thread, are examples of topic #1.

I think we might also be able to mostly agree that topic #1 deserves its own thread, and that when people start bashing each other, they should go get a room -- in that thread.

I'm proposing this thread for that exact purpose. In the name of keeping all the interpersonal flaming (not the on-topic flaming but the pure person-to-person flaming), forum drama, ban debates, clique-finger-pointing, and just general shitbirdery (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?p=2831469#post2831469) in one place, I'm going to suggest a new informal Qt3 policy:

If you are flaming other forum members because of who they are -- especially if you are cross-linking between threads, going off topic for the current thread, or talking about who should or shouldn't be banned -- then please move the discussion over here, so whatever thread you were in can stay on topic.

I have no idea whether this will work. Frankly, I doubt it. But I do know it is an experiment worth trying. The "Avatars?" thread gets grandfathered in for this purpose, but I suspect it might outlive its welcome in the Games thread, plus Bananas and Nuts was too good to die forever.

For the record, my main goal here is to un-shit the rest of Quarter to Three by trying to get all the drama in one place. Nature abhors a vacuum, and better for there to be one cauldron of bilious vitriol than for it to be everywhere all over everything.

If we can put all the forum drama in one thread, I'm all for it. My biggest concern in the short-term is that we're going to end up having multiple threads about it, as is the case at the moment. If we can get everyone to stop pissing in those other threads and do it here that would be great.

It keeps you from being able to login. Browse the forums while logged out and observe what you're capable of doing on the board, that's what it does. Read-thread/posts are impossible to track, as stuff keeps showing up as unread no matter how many times you read it etc. It makes long threads like the the Bargain thread difficult to navigate/track.

Tom changed the Rules, left the forums, unbanned most of the people he'd banned in the past, and banned himself to make it clear he wasn't coming back to the cesspool WE have created over many years until he's ready to join us again.

I publically questioned Tom when the crazy banhammer started swinging that brought this about, and he publically told me to shut the fuck up and ask him privately. I almost regret that I defended some of those people now. I thought they were better than that.

Jerri, as you might see from the relative lack of eterna-flaming I'm doing in this or other threads, I'm really no fan of the infinite recrimination fuckfests around here. I was banned for a couple years due to a flameout against michael777, where I mocked him, and I mocked Tom for defending his right to spew what I considered hateful bullshit.

Although it's nobody's business but mine, I emailed him after the banning and let him know that there were no hard feelings, that I disagreed, and that I would not be back for a while.

After a couple years I wrote Tom an email apologizing -- because what that guy posted was trolling, and I _did_ overreact -- and asking if I could be let back in. He said cool, I came back. Shogun 2 maaaay have had something to do with reminding me this place existed.


I'm posting all this because I absolutely do not want to be included in some fucking list of people who have been banned "for refusing to toe the line". The only line I refused to toe was the line of common decency.

I think nerds are dificult people. Mostly because some are very smart, but even at 50 years old may lack some social skills that other people have naturally at 15 years old.

But I don't want to participate on other type of forum. I don't want to participate in forums where people use image signs that are bigger than the post that are making. Nerds can have huge inflated egos, but post building arguments, for the most part. Also nerds have often interesting things to say, while most other people don't have his own opinions, but other people opinions that have adopted as his opinion.

So is interesting to talk to nerds. Maybe because I am a nerd myself.

I am a bit angry against the people that have made this forum soo dificult to Tom, that he have need to quit the forum. I don't know Tom even a 1/100 of any of you, but I appreciate he creating this forum and paying the monthly bandwidth bill. I am grateful to him.

Also, I find cute when people troll, because most people trolling skills are lame. Like other Internet slang words, is overused and most people have never really learned the appropriate use.

I don't see a negative to letting people know that the board is continuing on. Especially in response to posts where people are declaring that the board itself is at an end. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I do consider posts of doomsaying to be a negative, since they're totally bummertastic and bring down everyone's day. They also set up a sort of self-perpetuating meme where those who believe in this apocalyptic tenor will start looking for it everywhere.

Finally, I've only posted about it so far in direct response to nervous Nellies* and in appropriate threads.

On the other hand, and this will seem like it's meant to be a low blow but it honestly isn't intended that way, I'm not sure what there is to gain in debating what is and is not appropriate with someone who once said he ignores anyone who posts something that upsets him and shared a list of ignored posters longer than my dad's Facebook friends list. We clearly have widely varying ideas on this subject and are likely never going to see eye to eye.

The mob got together a few times, Tom shot some people and it all dissolved before, this time they stood together and Tom got run out of town. Now only the responsible person has a gun and same mob is ready to do the same to troublemakers.
