I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this yet, but appearently the chaps behind World of Tanks, and soon Planes, has revealed the fianl chapter in their World of trilogy, World of Battleships
RPS has the story here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/16/full-ahead-world-of-battleships-announced/
I'd actually like that I think...especially if its as slow as in reality and much more of a tactical game than a FPS

Definitely interested in this one. I'm enjoying WoT and think that Battleships should be as much fun.

I would very seriously consider playing this, whereas Tanks and Planes wouldn't really catch my interest. This one will be worthy of my attention, at the very least.
The idea of slinging around high-powered naval ordnance is highly appealing.

It was mentioned in the World of Tanks thread. There just doesn't seem to be any information about it yet. I loved Navy Field for what it was so I'm definitely interested in this.

This could be fun, I wonder where they will draw the line on simulation versus arcade.
I think they need to add World of Mechs next.

I call subs then.

Carriers? Ha! Subs? Ha!
Land-based aircraft and missile silos.
Also, I will try this game.

they have tank destroyers and arty in world of tank, they probably gonna have sub and carrier in WoB.

They need to mix WoP and WoB together, would be awesome.

Hmm. No terrain clutter or variety. I wonder how this is going to work?
Also, none of the Blues' News concept art shows subs. Hm.

I'm tempted just cause I want an Iowa.
Edit: Oddly all the SS seem to be of British, German and Japanese ships. I get the British and Japanese, but you'd think America would be in there given they were one of the few true naval powers of WW2.
Redit: Found a US flag, so maybe I'm wrong.

If there are no subs than I'm gonna get the 15 torpedo tubes of the Shimakaze.

keep in mind that it's not World of Planes (that's another company) it's World of Warplanes for the WoT guys.

I think World of ships would be more interesting or tactical than World of Warplanes.
Although aerial combat is more three dimensional it lacks terrain and cover which is one of the things that really appeals to me about WOT.
WOS Could have reefs, shallow areas that small ships could cross but big ships couldn't, islands or harbours to provide cover even larger ships could be used by smaller ships as cover. Although I am not sure about the practicalities of being able to go forwards and then back to avoid fire in a ship.

aerial combat only lacks terrain and cover if you're a pussy ;)

They could have weather and sea state variety though. I am thinking night time engagements in iron bottom sound would be fun.

Yeah this sounds interesting.
Hopefully the turn the dial far more towards tactical than arcade, more so than World of Tanks. World of Warplanes can be the more arcade one. I'm not terribly interested in that, but never really got much into flight sims (other than gunship) either

From WWI era battleships to the science fiction Star Destroyers in Star Wars I think we can all agree that battleships are awesome.
Unfortunately, few developers get the 'feeling' of battleships right, Relic is one of them with their Homeworld games in my opinion.

I remember playing two games on MS-DOS that contained WWI battleships. One was Jutland and the other was a grognard deluxe type game. The second one modeled things like shifting ballast to offset guns firing broadside and ship torquing. Can't remember the name. Anybody?

Call me when they add 'World of Infantry' and then link all four games together to make "World War Two Online", except not shitty.

I'm pretty sure that it has been stated by a developer that the World of Tanks map size is too small for World of Warplanes.

IIRC most of the World of Tanks maps are about 1km square. That's certainly not big enough for aircraft.

Have you played Battlestations: Midway/Pacific? Those games are sort of like what you're imagining. You control fleets of ships, subs, and planes (carrier and land-based, depending on the mission) and can take individual control of any unit.

I recall being tempted by Battlestations: Pacific when it came out, but I have even less time now than I did then.

I think I tried the demo, and it was total chaos. And multiplayer only, I think, which didn't help matters.
Watched the video. I think I need this game.

Deep down inside, I will always love the Harpoon series above all else.

Any news on this?
I know there was news about "World of Planes" but I thought that was supposed to come after "World of Battleships".

World of Battleships will be as close to Harpoon as Steel Beasts (http://steelbeasts.com/) is close to world of tanks.
One is about hardcore realism. the other is a game.
I talked to wargaming.net's CEO, Victor Kyslinski (sp?), a very amiable guy. He told me the plane and ships games are developed in different cities by different teams. I dont remember where the planes team is located, but the battleships team is in St. Petersburg.
It is a smaller team than the one working on planes, which in turn is smaller than the team on tanks. tanks is doing very very well for them, hence the rapid expansion.
Expect something like a cross between the battlestation games, world of tanks and navyfield. just a bunch of units slugging it out.
Terrain will be in the game, the maps will have islands and coastlines. There will be no subs or carriers afaik.

They showed at least one carrier in their video, unless my memory is completely failing me, so I think those are in. Subs are out--I'm sure they don't want to add the complications of a z-axis, sonar, silent running, and so on for a single ship class.

if they are in, they will most likely be targets, or npc. perhaps even scenery. afaik the game is about ships with guns. repeat after me: ships. guns. not airplanes, not periscopes and depth charges. guns. and perhaps torpedoes. but mostly guns. big ones. oh yes.

i remember reading that aircraft carriers were going to be in as like a support/damage class where they could launch planes at distant targets but were otherwise vulnerable. Maybe something comparable to how arty works in world of tanks?
