Francisco Garcia, 18, of the Los Primos dance crew, revealed: 'There are some steps where you have to cross your feet and throw yourself to the ground and you can't do that with the pointy boots.'
For others, though, it's worth the effort, as the unlikely trend is become something of a babe-magnet according to one young fan.
University student Pascual Escobedo, 20, said: 'At the beginning I didn't like them very much, but the girls wouldn't dance with you if you weren't wearing pointy boots.'
Housewife Laura Soto, 36, added: 'The boots makes them look more sexy because you can tell they are daring.'
Daring like a ... fox? Like the Robin Hood in the Disney movie? Bah, I can't dance anyway, so I'll just stay on the sidelines and snark.

Well, I wouldn't want to try going up an escalator in those, let alone stairs...

Those two look like they're about to box, not dance.
Reading the article, at every photo I couldn't help thinking: clown shoes. They're wearing clown shoes.

Totally. When I read the title and saw the pic I was sure the newest cool thing from Mexico was boxing with pointy shoes.
I wonder if they really take this seriously or if it's just for the lulz.
Mexico has decided to take its collective mind off the hundreds of decapitated corpses they keep finding due to the drug war by doing the only thing they can - crafting ye' olde jester shoes.

Looking like a dumbass, now accepted as normal in Mexico.
What's the appeal to this style of footwear?
Hell, spray painting yourself orange is accepted behavior in certain social circles here in the states.
The world is just going KooKie.

The world has always been kookie.
See the dutch tulip-craze a couple of hundred years ago.

That pocket stain is why you don't wear white pants unless you are Ricardo Montalbán.

Wait.
You look at that pic and the pocket stain gets your attention?

That pocket stain looks remarkably like the L.A. Dodgers logo.

I'll bet you didn't see the giant spider in the picture, either.

I'm amazed no one has made any penis jokes yet.

Maybe a compensating for something joke?

A compensating for the lack of penis jokes joke?
I really thought they were some kind of fighting shoes, with steel blades in the tips of the pointy toes. Now that would be battle dancing.

Hombre on the right has a pretty nice hat, though.

That brings a whole new meaning to the term cockfighting.
