Some of the earliest examples of these types of things were on the SA forums, where you could use a macro (used in the classic "repeatable code/script snippet" sense), much like BB-code, to insert one of a set of images automatically.

I do agree with you these seem pretty weak. The cat one is a little funny, the rooster and frog ones not at all...not for me anyway.

I've got a few friends that play LoL, they keep trying to get me to play but I bought HoN months prior and the idea of switching and having to unlock all those heroes just to get back to the same selection as what's currently available to me in HoN has kept me for playing it.

I keep trying to get them to buy HoN but they're resistant, "LoL is free" they keep telling me. I keep telling them that I don't want to stop playing the full game I have for the 1/4 of a game they want me to play. They, of course, don't want to spend the money on HoN despite the fact that they've all spent far more on LoL than a HoN account costs and still don't have all the basic crap unlocked. I got one to buy it a couple of weeks ago when it was just $10. I can't believe none of the others bought at that price, they'll easily spend more than that on LoL unlocking heroes.

I can't imagine that $10 for HoN isn't the best possible deal for a DotAesque game unless you've got everything in LoL unlocked.

Admittedly I haven't played LoL in an extremely long time but that was not my experience last I played it.

I'll grant that the community is likely better (the HoN community is truly disgusting) but the game, the presentation the UI everything else I find better in HoN. One of my biggest annoyances with LoL is that stupid front end they have, dear god they have to get rid of that thing!
