Alright, that DLC is just freaking nuts ... and I'll buy it and love it, unless this is an early April Fool's joke in which case I'll wish I could buy it and love it.

That is far more awesome of a concept that I could have ever come up with for Magicka DLC. Consider it purchased already.

There were a few parts where I died over and over (especially the ski free yeti part), but I was always able to get past. I thought it was relatively easy overall. How/where did you get stuck?

Also, magicka: vietnam sounds great to me. I didn't get a whole lot of time out of magicka but it was a blast. I'll definitely pick up vietnam.

Magicka is fun explody chaos, but I suck at combos and just can't do them fast enough to make any significant progress. However, I love the concept, appreciate the many patches and get a kick out of the Devs, so I will continue to support their efforts.

I misread it.

What they actually advertise is (http://www.magickagame.com/news/2011/3/magicka-vietnam-release-date-set) " Magicka: Vietnam also contains a new survival challenge map with increased difficulty in direct response to the request from the community."

I'm baffled that anyone thinks it needs "increased difficulty". I must be old and slow. or something.

Netriak
04-01-2011, 10:16 AM
Well, magicka difficulty varies greatly with the amount of players. The later chapters of magicka solo are indeed difficult. The same chapters with 3 or more competent players are quite easy. Same for the challenges.

Fenris99
04-01-2011, 10:26 AM
Well I wish it would scale with number of players or something. As it is I got stuck early and gave up. Or it needs an "easy mode" for people like me.

Netriak
04-01-2011, 11:23 AM
Well, with smart/efficient spell use most chapters are easy solo too. It is mostly chapter 11 that is really difficult solo. The end of chapter 6 can be difficult too.

There are a couple of bad guys who can kill you instantly, it's when i mess up, get caught and killed, and then am forced to replay a section that I give up. It was also a shame that my buddies machine was too slow to play the game, so I never got to play co-op.

Agreed. The SP is just not balanced at all.

I know, I know. "Stop buying co-op games if you're only going to play SP!" I don't expect perfect balance in this situation, but at least L4D is playable solo.

I beat magicka solo. Only the last area (with the yetis) is particularly hard. I found most of the game very easy and enjoyable. It's not a game for those who can't stand dying.

Kat and I finished this game last night. Paradox really nailed that basic mechanics. Getting your spells ready can be challenging sometimes, but that is part of the fun. My only issues with the game is that it is too easy to be 1-shotted and the buggy gauntlet that would not let you heal even after you had dropped it. Being juggled is never fun, and not being able to heal after being revived just made it worse. I'm trying to get my brother-in-law to pick it up so we can get some 4 player action going. I'm very glad my wife decided to buy it.

It definitely feels sparse, but thats the way most DLC are. I have to hand it to them though with the fact that you only need the person hosting to have the DLC for everyone else to play. I'm sort of hoping a lot more games approach DLC in that way when it comes to multiplayer DLC.

And that's why I usually can't be bothered with DLC. That is cool about the multiplayer, though... enough to tip the DLC from "don't bother" to "buy on sale" for me. Thanks for the feedback!

Well that's pretty damn excellent. Disappointed by how slim it sounds for $5, but at least the way they handled it shouldn't splinter the people playing it or anything.

I'm pissed that I bought this and then had to hunt a crack so that I could run it with the FPS limiter program.

By default it is unplayable because on CRT it goes at 120 FPS and overheats the videocard.

Magicka is my first co-op game since Left 4 Dead. I had a good time playing with my friend.

I couldn't authenticate connecting to him, but he could join my game just fine.

The only thing we couldn't figure out is if there's anything active to do for the melee weapon special attack. If you hit tab it shows the basic physical attack and also another one. The staff has something similar you can do with shift-middle mouse. Is there an active command for the alternate melee weapon attack, or is that just an additional modifier?

My sister was able to use the Sword of the Masters by typical melee attack, it just flung bolts as well as swung.

So having thought about it and read the advice in the bargain thread I picked this up for the SP. Miracle upon miracles I have convinced a friend to pick it up too, which is surprising as he is generally console only these days.

However his laptop is the most powerful PC he has and ticks all the requirements other than gfx card. Will an 8600m GT be able to run this at say lower settings?

Most appreciated!

All I can say is that my laptop with a 9800M GTX struggled a lot with this game on one particular level (when the town is under siege). I probably could have dropped the settings a bit for it though. I will say that the game isn't too well optimised.

There is a demo, though not sure if that will be a good indicator for how well the game runs.

Hmmmm, ok thanks. He is downloading the demo now.

Decided to finally play this and it's quite a bit of fun. Several of the fights even by the end of chapter 3 were getting too hard for me, so I had to Google some spell combos. QFQFAAS is the shiznit for enemies if they're fairly well lined up in a row.

Morberis

Try that as an area of effect spell if you're surrounded.

Also learn the nullify and immunity to water spells if you're using that all the time, you'll need to be able to cast them later.

Haven't read the thread but I wanted to vomit this somewhere ... really, the checkpoints aren't saving my progress? I have to complete an entire level before my progress will be saved?

If you play a gong sound and display "checkpoint" on the screen any reasonable gamer is going to assume progress has been saved. God damn it...

It's awesome they sold so many. It's a fun game. I am also glad Paradox is addressing their quality issues, to put it nicely. Their games are buggy as hell, so I wind up buying them several months later after release, but I enjoy the uniqueness they offer. CK, EU... not a lot of games out there hitting those niches.

At long last, with no fanfare, Magicka has been updated (http://store.steampowered.com/news/6780/) to add what everyone wanted.

• Added saveable checkpoints. Checkpoints will now save your progress up to that point.
• Added an automatic-revive fairy for single player games.
• Added an option to revisit old chapters in a campaign.

$2.50 on Steam right now for a few more hours.. it looks fun, but can it be played casually? I'm all for little games I can jump in and out of in 10-15 min, but if it's an involved rpg thing I'll pass.

No, their is no checkpoints which hinders playing for a bit at a time. You need to finish full levels at a time (which probably takes 20-30mins). There is practically no RPG aspect to the game however and the single player isn't very good as it's balanced for MP.

The game has sold 1.3 million copies since it launched almost a year ago. And on top of that, DLC has cumulatively sold over four million copies.
