Why the hell do we have to persist with standing in stupid voting lines at a polling booth to place our votes.

Why can't we vote online using the internet ?

It's especially bad here in Australia where you are forced to vote otherwise you will get a fine. At least allow me to vote online. Frickin stupid government.

We can't even make sure our games are not being stolen before their even released, and now you want us to vote online? Maybe in a few more years.

Tell the truth. You stole that exact quote from Wired Magazine circa 1996.

Ha, great minds and all that. They probalby deserve more credit since they did not have the benefit of the HL2 theft in their face.

It will never happen, too hard to control.

I can handle my banking needs online, surely you could create an online voting option just as secure.

I'm sure the good folks at Diebold are working hard on a way for you to vote online. With a way to "adjust" your vote for your own good, of course.

I'm sure online voting will happen eventually, and I doubt that it's being held back by any practical concern like security. Bear in mind how outdated many voting systems are already--it just takes a lot of time to implement major changes.

Also, banks make money with online banking, but the government has to spend money to update voting. Which is the flip-side of the other reason it takes so long: banks are in a competitive industry, and the government isn't. Don't like your antiquated punch cards? I guess you can move to another country ah ha ha ha...*

* Come to think of it, that's exactly the argument that people have been putting forward in bmulligan's tax thread, so maybe people aren't going to get the joke.

Online voting is only a matter of time. Our provinicial government was elected last week on a platform that included introducing online voting by the next election.

Really? I guess I missed that part of the platform. I kind of like our pencil and paper voting system. The very labour-intensiveness of the filling-out and counting adds a certain kind of robustness. Maybe the Liberals want to be the ones to implement an electronic system so they can make sure it has all the right backdoors...

Backdoors, huh? I guess liberals would need them to have parity with the right-wing run companies already doing this.

All we need is someone to blow up the Statue of Liberty so your vision of the Dark Future will be complete.

Don't make me quote the Rev. Niemoller for ya.
