Yeah, that's really interesting. The map for Detroit is just mind-blowing.

I have broken the code: Whites are red necks, Blacks invented the blues, Hispanics sell oranges, Asians drink green tea, Grays are from Other planets.
Haha.

I agree. I was a little surprised not to see more Gray in Dearborn, but I guess with the standard categories available most people of Arab ethnicity self-identify as White?

The census counts them under caucasian, yeah.

I hope someone does an animated gif of the changes between 2000 and 2010 when the data is available.

So, Spokane is really, really white. That's not a surprise, but it makes me glad I don't live there anymore.

Yea, I'm with you there. I feel exactly the same way, except about the predominately black or mexican areas. I'm glad we can be so open about this.

LOL, you live in Portland? So now instead of ten minorities, you have eleven?

It's not about the number of minorities, it's about the number of people within those minorities. Spokane is over 90% white. When I worked at Gonzaga, the law school made a big point about how diverse the last incoming class was at 14%. In that class there was not a single black student and in the entire 5 years I worked there I think I only saw maybe 5 or 6.

Portland may not be the most diverse city in the world, but coming from Spokane it certainly seems like a pretty huge step up.

I can see my town quite clearly on the full-size map of the Burlington area, and while my neighborhood is entirely red (or white), there's one green dot a mile through the trees, in another neighborhood. As green = Asian, I'm almost 100% sure I know precisely whose house that is.

I expect to see a little more blue and green when the new census numbers come out, what with the influx of African and Southeast Asian immigrants to the area in recent years. But chances are we'll still be the whitest state in the country when it's all tallied up.

So racial self-segregation makes you feel better?

I am as white as wonder bread. My point is that it's good to be living in an area that actually has diversity and not to be living in an area that is 91.4% white. Also, that I hate Spokane.

Oh, was that your point? You do a shit poor job of expressing yourself.

As a local comedian here once noted, Portland is so white that the black neighborhood is called Albina.

FYI, according to the census Multnomah County is 83% white. Compared to Spokane's 91.4, that seems pretty diverse.

There aren't 25 Asian people in that neighborhood. :P
