So, my iPhone headset--the one that comes with the phone itself--bit the dust. I can no longer hear out of the left earbud, and I'm not sure that the mic works. Replacement time is upon me, though don't get me started about headset quality and the fact that I've owned this phone for only 8 months. Geez, I have cheap pc headsets at the office. I've rolled over the wires several times and it still works.

Anyway, rather than get another POS headset, I'd like to know recommended alternatives. I do need a mic. I like the headset for listening. I have a 3G, not 3GS.

Suggestions?

People actually use the shit earbuds that come with Apple iPod/iPhones?

I'm by no means an audiophile, I tend to use like $12 Phillips headphones for my mobile mp3 players... but the Apple ear buds are just completely horrible.

Yea, my iPhone headset with the mic bit the dust not long after I got my iPhone last year. Couldn't figure out why for the longest time, then I finally examined the cord. My cat had decided the cord made a great chew toy, and it was hanging on, severed, but for a tiny bit of the plastic sheath.

Still haven't found a replacement solution (with the mic for calls) that's under the $29.99 (WTF!) replacements from Apple.

For calls, I use a bluetooth earpiece, which I like quite a lot so far (Jawbone). For music, I'm usually piping the sound through my computer speakers, but when not, I use Etymotic earbuds, and I've been very fond of them. My audiophile musician brother-in-law got them for me a while back and speaks very highly of the sound quality. A quick glance shows they have combo microphone+earbud products designed for iPhone use, so that'd be my suggestion if you want an all-in-one solution. www.etymotic.com/ephp/hscomp
