Id like to put myself forward to do one on League of Legends. I'm not too sure on the podcast thing but hell, if there was any game I'd do it on it would be that one :)

Pogue, Otagan, I only mentioned SF and TF as alternatives to FS2. I'd not want to fight you over such awesomeness (my next tat will combine symbols from all 3 games, for example). If I was able to claim FS2, then by all means have at it. :-)

Oh, I know. My comment still stands.

By all means, though, talk about Freespace 2 to your heart's content. A fantastic game by any measu-DIVE DIVE DIVE HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!

I know I've not been real active on the forums yet, but I really love your podcasts Tom, and would really enjoy talking with you about games. I'd probably pick Freedom Force (or maybe Rocket: Robot on Wheels). Also I have twins which either gives me an unfair advantage or disqualifies me.

I'm declaring my candidacy for the podcast. I'd love to have a conversation about Platinum Games' Vanquish and liberate QT3 from the tyranny of western-developed PC games (if only for a while).

I look forward to hearing some of the podcasts suggested in this thread, too.

List updated, but for the time being, we're flirting with a new format. Not that it necessarily precludes guests, so we'll see where it goes.

No that was me :). I was so tired when i did that podcast i could barely stay coherent and on-topic until the end.

Plus, anonymity forever! I should have played up the "enigmatic" part of my name for humor/exposition. Screw giving personal information out of the net. Half of the "real name" posters have drifted away and dissapeared once (inevitably) the streams cross and some peeved poster starts dragging up personal info that will be immortalized forever thanks to Google.

Maybe not getting many downloads?

Yeah, when I did listen to podcasts this was the one. And only for the personal stuff.

... of course once the list gets down to us second tier posters and (sorry to say it) new arrivals, that's not much of a draw to most.

I can be a positive voice (though I did love the old games podcast too). After listening to Tom and Jason on the Jumping The Shark during E3, getting to hear them more frequently is awesome.

I cant wait to give this a listen.

If Qt3 were located in europe, I'd consider sueing because of my equality rights as a gamer being violated.

I have to put up with lukewarm excuses about time constraints and whatnot, but the moviegoers get their darn podcast REGULARLY.

Unfortunately for me, Qt3 isn't in europe ... so I guess I'll have to put up with whatever is provided. At least provide SOMETHING, dammit. :p

There's a fresh podcast on the front page right now. It has been enjoyed in Europe, this very morning.

I like the new format, but would definitely be a shame to lose guest voices. The new format would be good with them, though--broad skeleton of games of the week and threads of the week is a good framework.

Yeah, I realized that by now.
But I was actually not referring to the current time when I wrote 'provide something', I was referring to this happening regularly - just like with the movie podcast.

I haven't found the time to listen to the new podcast yet, so I can't yet make judgement whether or not I like the new format.

Same here. I'll try and listen to it on the way in to work tomorrow.

Whatever happens, I hope Tom keeps inviting guests on. As much as I love listening to Tom Chick and Friends, it's nice to get to know the other people around here a bit more, and he's a great interviewer.

Hi Tom,

The new format is excellent. Perhaps some of the other working games journalists that frequent this site might like to sit in with you and Jason so you can discuss a topic in depth.

Vesper

Is there any reason we couldn't have both podcasts, Tom? The new one and the old interview-oriented one? Obviously it'd be another podcast for you to handle, but I like both formats.

I also really enjoy both formats, but I miss the old one, the interviews were great. Not only because the guests were always cool but because Tom is a great interviewer.

Or maybe a shorter, easier-for-Tom-to-manage, interview as a segment on the new podcast, kind of like how they do the 3x3 after the movie reviews?

I managed to listen to it by now. And I have to admit, I kinda liked the old format better - it was more ... charming?
We talk with the people that make the forum what it is about the stuff that matters to them, and all.

That said, the new format isn't bad per se, just a tad more ordinary, imo.
I like some of the ideas, like the thread of the 'week' (I'm putting this in brackets because it'll take some dedication to convince me this will indeed be weekly after all the neglect the gamers podcast has experienced) and some others.

Like Vesper, I wouldn't mind having both formats, but I'm guessing the reason he is asking for is lack of time. Otherwise, a monthly old-skool podcast would be the icing on the top.

Finally, I also got around to playing some FEAR3, and I totally disagree with Tom. It's a competent shooter, but fails to offer anything beyond that, from what I've seen so far.

I don't mind the new format, although I do wonder if the "news story of the week" segment will be sustainable. Is there really going to be a noteworthy gaming news story every week? It might be good to have another segment in your pocket, just in case.

But it's a totally different beast to the old games podcast. Even without the guests (which I imagine is the hard part to co-ordinate), there was a real draw in talking about an old game or series in depth. It was one of the only places where we get that kind of conversation, and not in a retro-gaming "everything was better then" way, but in a more nuanced look at what was effective, and how it relates to the modern gaming landscape.

The other thing is that it had the potential to talk about older but non-retro games. Things like, say, Fatal Frame or NOLF. Games that aren't old enough for retro gaming, but at arguably more relevant to people's experiences.

There's so much out there that does weekly format, that having a games podcast that felt like a newsmagazine / feature format was refreshing.

Ideally, as mentioned above, maybe if we're good we can get a weekly News-podcast, and then maybe a monthly guest podcast or something? That would be keen.

It was nice to listen to a podcast to get me excited about an old game, or help me appreciate it more after I finished it.

Those podcasts will also stay relevant for a long time. We need less ephemeral gaming news content on the Internet, not more.

My guess is that Tom is trying a new format not because things needed a change necessarily, but more because of the difficulty in wrangling people's schedules.

Tom can give me an hour and a day and, so long as I'm not at work, I will make myself available for it no matter how it may inconvenience me.

Hell, give me enough notice and I'd seriously consider burning a vacation day for it.

Ultimately, Tom should do whatever podcast format he enjoys. Whether old or new or a blend, I do hope the games podcasts occur more steadily--this is mainly pure selfishness, though. I skip most of the movie podcasts because I see vanishingly few movies in theatrical release, and by the time I get around to seeing them after they hit rental I'm usually too lazy to dig through archives to see if it's one they covered months before.

Well...this new format seems to be more about games with a touch of industry insight than games with a touch of forum insiderism.

And games with a touch of industry insight is really what Qt3 was originally about. I see the shift as part of the front page reactivating after years of dormancy.

I don't care much about industry insight myself, but I certainly see why Tom as a pro rebuilding Qt3 as a Web destination would switch formats.

I listened to this podcast this afternoon, and was disappointed. I don't really care about games news since most of it isn't relevant to me. I didn't care about the Duke Nukem discussion since I already knew it was bad. And to be honest y'all didn't seem very articulate/concise. If you're going to do a more structured podcast, my production values expectations are going to be much higher.

The old format suffered sometimes when the guests weren't forthcoming, but it always picked up in the second half since you were talking about great games. But it also gave us great guests like jpinard, DrCrypt, and krayzkrok. I'd hate to lose that for what is, frankly, just another games podcast.

WELL HELLO THERE! I'm Jason McMaster! You may know me from such things as the Qt3 front page, Qt3 Games Podcast or my hatred of Fragdolls.

I'm here today to ask if anyone in the above list, or anyone not on the list for that matter, would like to make an appearance on the NEW improved Qt3 Games Podcast? If so, please drop me, Jason McMaster, a line and we'll try to set something up!

EXCITEMENT!!!!

I'd love to be on again, so go ahead and pencil me in for 2019, when everyone else in the queue has had their turn. I'll be happy to talk about the soon-to-be-released Final Fantasy Versus XIII then!
