View Full Version : Michael Steele Is The Most Awesomest RNC Chair Ever
Among other reasons, he forgot when we invaded Afghanistan. (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/03/us/politics/03steele.html)
"It was the president who was trying to be cute by half by flipping a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should be Afghanistan,” Mr. Steele said, according to a video of his remarks that was circulated by Democrats on Friday. “Well, if he’s such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan?"
You know it's bad when even Bill Kristol says "Dude! WTF! (http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/letter-michael-steele)"
(Oh, I didn't see that this was in the McChrystal thread too. But... really... come on. It's too awesome to be contained.)

I do wonder what he has to do to get canned. Fuck a chicken?

I know some people who would be willing to donate a chicken to the cause. Sexual orientation of said chicken is undetermined at this time, however.

Maybe he meant that between the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan, Obama would choose the latter if he could only choose one. As in "Chicken salad is a sandwich of my choosing". Right?
Regardless of what he meant, he should look around for the part of his foot he just shot off with his mouth. He should go, for any number of reasons. This is as good as any.
Edit: Actually reading the article, it seems that is exactly what he meant. And didn't know he was being recorded. A "cling to their guns" moment. Nonetheless, no one "chose" to go there, though, and being unlucky and dumb is just as bad being plain ol' dumb. Get that man a gay chicken, stat.

So what are the rules of politics again?
Don't get caught in bed with a dead girl, a live boy, or a gay chicken?

Keep fucking that chicken...
I thought the gaycocks were some kind of sportsteam?

Well, if he was a student of history, maybe he'd know he shouldn't have started a ground war in Afghanistan.
Stupid Barry Soetoro!

Of course, the saddest part is, in referring to "history" he's actually referring to "The Princess Bride." Go go Wallace Shawn!
WTF is a sport steam?
Freakin iPhone.

While he will fry on a stake for what he said at the hands of the neocons, he is actually right on this one. This war is creating strange bedfellows when Bill Kristol and the president are on the same side of an issue.
This war is unwinnable, all you have to do is study Alexander the Great or the Soviets in their prime. What makes us think we are better conquerors and so arrogant to think the extremists will lay down their weapons, drop the opium trade, and adopt true American democracy? We're not even dealing with a real country at all here. It's at best a random grouping of disparate tribes.
We need to drop the adventurism and get back to basics of defending our own homeland.

I think it's a safe conclusion that he's not criticizing Obama on the merits.
I thought the gaycocks were some kind of sportsteam?
You're thinking of the NZ badminton team, the Black Cocks.

Whether or not this is the gaffe that takes him out, it's been clear for a long time that his own words are going to be what ends up dooming him.
I actually hope he survives this. He's just too much fun.

Yeah, I shudder to think what he will actually have to do to get himself fired. Start watching this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUF19acPBZA) at 23 seconds and experience what I experience when watching his deeply strange antics.

I was going for more of a South Carolina Gamecocks homonym, but whatever floats your boat...

Interestingly, a number of Republicans are saying he should step down as chair or "consider his future."

Poor GOP. This is what you get for pandering to anyone other than corporations.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

So if the NZ All Blacks joined up with the NZ Black Cocks, the combined team name would be...something the GOP was excited about?

Even getting thrown under the Fox News bus (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/04/steele-scrambles-contain-fallout-war-remark-gop-criticism-mounts/).
Not by everyone, though!
Representative Ron Paul of Texas, a former Republican presidential candidate and a leading figure among Tea Party activists, congratulated Mr. Steele on his remarks. In a statement on Sunday, he called Afghanistan “Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama’s war.”
“The American people are sick and tired of spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year, draining our economy and straining our military,” Mr. Paul said. “Michael Steele has it right, and Republicans should stick by him.”

Wow. At least no-one can accuse him of consensus thinking, which I suppose is his strategy. Does the kind of people who like the Ronpaul gobble this shit up, even believing it in spite of almost certainly also knowing it to be a lie?

Ron Paul has always been isolationist and anti-war.

Yeah, but does he also have a history of jumping on retcon bandwagons and promoting the kind of politics where reality is actually determined by the whim of party figures?
Obama is the President. He owns the war now. Paul was as much of a crank about the wars during Bush's tenure.
Wouldn't want to disparage the guy that thought a land war in Afghanistan was a good idea to begin with. Especially when his employees used to support afghani insurrection with advanced weapons and whatnot.
