After most of my favorite servers were converted, I finally broke down and installed Steam last night (I downloaded and installed the DoD package). So far, it has been working perfectly. Maybe I shouldn't say this out loud, but I kind of like it.
Many thanks to those that bravely went into the minefield ahead of me. I installed Steam to my second hard drive (keeping original files), and started up a LAN game by myself the first time I ran it. With the initial rush over, the verifications went flawlessly. Now a nice pickup game of DoD is only a couple clicks away.

Yeah it's been very painless for me too. I installed the 750MB package. It's nice to be able to just start DOD without searching for the CD. I haven't had any connection problems at initial login like a lot of other people seem to have.

Huh? Does the retail version require the CD to be in the drive?

Well I used the download version and it always required me to put in my old HalfLife CD.

That's...cute. I've never had HL or any of its mods complain about not having the CD in the drive. But that's neither here nor there considering the topic.
Stability: Has it improved with STEAM, that you've noticed? Can i actually change my resolution without it crashing?
