this clears up any questions about American monopolies on stupid hypersensitivity (www.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=3&art_id=qw1063805761187B253&set_id=1)

Sweden's broadcasting watchdog said on Wednesday it was censuring an Oprah Winfrey talk show for showing bias towards a United States military attack on Iraq.
But the explanation makes it all better:

"Different views were expressed, but all longer remarks gave voice to the opinion that Saddam Hussein was a threat to the United States and should be the target of attack," Sweden's Broadcasting Commission said.

Wouldja like some Freedom Fries with that?

PS: Saddest part for me:

A TV4 spokesperson said the Oprah Winfrey show usually drew an audience of about 100 000-140 000 Swedes, making it one of Sweden's more popular day-time television programmes.

I've not seen anything about this in Swedish media.
Seems a bit... unreasonable.

Come to think of it, there may be some ordinance regarding one-sided reporting for the ground-based television networks.

The FCC used to have discretion in that as well until the late 70's I think.

Reagan's FCC dropped the equal time requirement.

It didn't shock me as much as it made my brain melt.

When I saw a clip of Fox news once (the mistake where he said blowjob) I was more shocked by the fact a supposedly 'sensible' news channel had a fecking sound clip of 'PERIOD!' in their little sound bite.

If I saw that fucking shit in news programmes on terrestial here I would move to a different country.

Cool, now I can paint Sweeds and Australlian with one brush stroke. That'll save me some time.

Maybe they should balance Oprah with some Katie Couric.

Hey there! We Swedes might all be conforming communists with no distinguishing individual features, but don't go mixing up innocent Australians with us, that's just not fair to them. :)

Actually everything is fair in Australlia, the government makes sure of that!
