View Full Version : QT3's banner ad a "blocked site" at my company

Not sure why if it's just the royal tennenbaums banner (assuming it still is, since I can't see it anymore), but the banner is now coming up as a "blocked site" within my company firewall. Which means I'm probably gonna have to stop coming here unless that changes. Not that anyone cares, I was just wondering what server that banner is on that it's being blocked. I work for a Fortune 50 company.

JT, we're running portal of evil banners now. That's probably why your getting that block. If you're in the game business, it might be because of Fat Babies that the POE stuff is blocked.

You can always visit the site at home in the evenings.

Heh -- website traffic will drop dramatically for all game sites if companies ever get around to limiting access to business-related sites.

There are several ads rotating in the space now JT.

No, I work for a top 5 pharmaceutical company. Apparently they've tagged POE. Usually The Onion is off limits too, though sometimes it works.

I don't think I can risk visiting sites that trigger these alerts. I don't really surf the web at home -- i can't wait to get AWAY from the computer at night (unless I have a game to play).

Oh well. Ta-ta!

The ads actually get served up off a seperate server than any of our sites. Does it affect the whole page? The ads are in iframes so normally it just affects that frame (or should).

Some of the ad graphics are hosted by us, some are not so that may affect things as well.

One of the biggest curses of POE was growing too big and getting on too many people's radar. We come standard on netnanny and other filtering software.

Just the frame. It's too bad another server name can't be used to serve the ads and such ... not my area of expertise obviously.

Maybe the curse was using the word "evil" in your name. Not a lot of sites are going to view it as a bad thing to block out "evil" sites.

It's like naming your kid Doctor Doom, Apocalypse, or Sinister -- you've pretty much decided their destiny.

Chet, it's not too late: portalofpuppies.com is still available.

Denny: It's not too late. I like Doctor Doom, myself.

But they even block out Chlamydia-is-not-a-flower.com and YourMomIsACunt.com. Bastards!!! Thank god FreeTraficant.com still works.

I added b.quartertothree.com to the aliases for the ad server. When that resolves later tonight, I will change the banner code to point there. See if that helps.

"Apocalypse Atkins" is a great name. It's a girl's name, though.

Is that a reference to Jesus... er... Robert?

Speaking of the new banners, does anyone have any idea what is pictured in the Anonymizer banner? The text is "Watch what you want. No one will know.", and it seems to have 4 grayscale images above it.

Here's the image:

OK, after unfocusing my eyes a la the 'Magic Eye' 3D hidden pictures, the left image looks like a guy looking through binoculars, and the right image is someone peeking through some blinds. But the middle ones still have me stumped.

The second image seems to be a close-up of a woman's neck. She's laying down face up, with her head on the right. That third image still has me stumped.

It's a little story, ala REAR WINDOW. In the third one, the woman is being strangled.

It seems to have helped. Thanks.

The 3rd image looks like a hand holding an ankle. Very artsy implied porn.

My company is ever expanding its list of forbidden sites, but so far POE and all my game sites have stayed under the radar. The Onion and even the Nebraska Lottery have been blocked out though. Apparently I can look at fat chicks in party hats, but looking at last night's Powerball numbers is a big no-no.

OK, I see the woman in the second frame, but don't see the hand or ankle or anything else in the third yet.

And I wonder if "powerball" has its own section in porno catalogs.

Well, in many parts of the Southeastern U.S., especially here in Alabama, it is a widely held belief that Satan created all forms of gambling. Maybe the head IT guy is of Southern Baptist descent.
