Can you revise the game name to People In Hell Want Ice Water, since I already have a Qt3 thread (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=56467) created with that title? Or, if you're able, change the thread name to [Solium Infernum] Sin to Win?

I'm gonna toss this here in hopes that everyone I'm in a game with sees it.

Evidently my ISP decided to "upgrade" our email. So they did that with one tiny, tiny problem. My email no longer works with any sort of email client. So... yeah. I have no email cause my ISP is run by geniuses that decided that testing to make sure things worked with such obscure programs as Outlook wasn't worth their time.

You tried online clients like hotmail, yahoo?

Otherwise, coordinate with the host to use an online storage site or instant messenger to transfer the .trn file. I can facilitate for our game if you want, once you picked a method.

Supposedly its going to be fixed shortly, but I think I'm going to try to get a hotmail or yahoo account rolling for the moment.

Then again, the bigger issue is that I'm not sure I'm receiving any email either. Sometimes one will sneak through, but I'm pretty sure theres more out there in internet limbo right now.

There's not much to do with the points you're given, Prince is almost a requirement and 2 or 3 CHA is as well... unless you get super creative anything else is basically gimping a newcomer to the game (ie everyone) plus people will notice you aren't a prince/see your charisma with a ritual or something and immediately suspect you of being up to something sneaky.

LokeUtgaard

I agree that the (competitive) build options are a bit limited. It would be interesting, to be able to make custom games where you could use avatars with more points.

It was working for almost a whole day there.

Any turns that didn't get sent to my yahoo account probably wont be responded to for a little while.

Edit: Ok I think its working again. They decided to change the email servers sometime last night, but didn't think it was worth the effort to bother to tell anyone what they were. Thankfully I still get their ad emails though.

What's so great about the puzzle cube?

JavaBean
12-24-2009, 10:27 AM
The puzzle cube is evil. You can use it to teleport one legion per turn anywhere on the board, including right onto an enemy legion or PoP (so long as you are in Vendetta with them). With it, your one super-legion can demolish enemies from all the way across the game board, without giving any advance warning at all.

Thesper
12-24-2009, 10:53 AM
Actually you can use it as many times per turn as you have free ritual slots. I used it to set up a simultaeneous invasion of all 5 other archfiends the turn after using it (by getting myself excommunicated in the same turn I used the cube ritual - the turn after I then had a legion within movement distance of each enemy stronghold).

It is a pretty powerful relic.

MikeSofaer
12-24-2009, 10:20 PM
Yeah, it's getting nerf-batted! I don't like that it doesn't tell you in the turn log when it's used. You could find out anyway by tediously combing the whole map, and I don't like it when games make tedium a good strategy.

My God this game really took off on Qt3.

I had actually never heard of Qt3 before. I joined just to be able to learn about and get into a PBeM game. I read Tom's Fidgit and got really interested in the game there. If he hadn't posted a link for this thread and provided a way for me to find like minded people wanting to play SI games I probably wouldn't be in any now.

I'm not sure if Vic has a link or any instructions on places to find PBeM games on the official site for the game, but if not, I'd suggest some starting off places like this one be added as they're really helpful.

ron_debry
12-30-2009, 08:15 AM
There is a subforum on Vic's site for setting up PBEM games. There is plenty of action here, and many of the players are the same ones I've been playing Dominions against for years, so I've not paid any attention to the games over there.

One thing that puzzled me when trying to figure out PBEM games, before joining Qt3, is: can I play with just one other human player, using AI players to fill the rest of the seats? I couldn't see a way to assign AI players from the invitation menu, and at least three (four?) human players are required to start a game. I know I can ask the AI to take over for a human mid-game, but with only two registration keys I can't get a game with six players going, even if I want four of them to be AI.

Anyone for a BBQ? I missed the first PBEM rush, and while the two games I'm enrolled in are interesting, one turn a day isn't really my style. And it's true what I read here: once you start PBEM, you can't go back to single-player. I'm happy to host and have a very flexible schedule, so we could play a short game in a day or so, get a couple dozen turns' head start on a longer one, or even try to set up a schedule for consistently getting 3+ turns/day for a while.

Why don't we start with a Short game then if were still game do a longer one after that. Plus it'd be entertaining to see if rivalries carry over to the next game.

We could run with Calistas idea too. Short games add a lot of prestige strategy and it'd be nice to have more skill points to spend.

I'm happy to host a three-player BBQ-style Short game, and I agree Lord-only would make things interesting. Before we get rolling, I need y'all's email addresses; and we also need to agree on a schedule we like. For example, do we want a half-hour chunk set aside to play at the same time, or three times during the day when we all agree to have sent in a turn by, or what?

WildOne, you've already heard the schedules Mysterio and I can do; what can you manage? And also, are we sure Calistas doesn't want to play the BBQ? (s)he didn't make it very clear.

And would you guys wanna use an instant messenger to improve communication?

I'll have limited availability this weekend and the following for BBQ, since it's the first two weekends of the NFL playoffs. This weekend, I'll be available Saturday morning (before noon EST) and Sunday night (after 8 PM EST). Next weekend, I may be available Saturday morning (before 10 AM EST), and will be available Sunday night (after 8 PM EST).

I'd prefer AIM personally; I don't use Steam hardly at all. 8 EST sounds good to me; i'm available till around 10 EST, and two hours is a pretty sizable block. Interested players please PM me your email addresses and AIM accounts, and I'll send the invites round at 7:30 EST.

By the way, I hereby nominate EST as the official time zone for this game. I may be hosting, but it doesn't really matter what time zone we pick, and you guys seem to be on EST.

JavaBean
01-05-2010, 01:22 PM
I have an idea: I'll just tell you how the season ends, and then you'll be available!

In seriousness, though, tomorrow is fine with me. That'll give us more time to get a fourth player. As for Archfiend rules, I think Lord-only is a great choice. The other option is basically to let everyone choose their own rank (ie, Prince-only). With weaker starting units and more flexible traits, this should make for more interesting ways to apply strategy.

Sign me up for another. I'm eager to get a 1.05 beta/1.05 game going, curious to see how people adjust their builds, particularly with regards to rank. As for game settings, I'd prefer to leave those to the participants to decide rather than set them before 6 people sign up. I'm hosting 2 other games, but I have no problem hosting more.

Also, you can't substitute a player afaik unless the sub has the other player's registration key.

I'm still available and willing to jump into any game type. I'd be willing to do a 1.05 game so long as it is compatible with previous versions, since I'm committed to another game now.

I'd love to start another game - I'm finding that just one game at a time isn't enough for me. Is this how the Dominions sickness starts?

Edit: Actually, now's not a good time to start a new game for me. I'm going out of town for a bit at the end of the month, and I don't want to hold up a game.

Mike, apologies for moving Jab846903862034989892346 ahead of you in the list, since he hasn't gotten the chance to play PBEM yet. But you're at the top of the list for the next game. Also, if anyone wants to start up a game with specialized settings or rules about frequency of turns, feel free to post here or elsewhere for new players and I'll leave it to you guys to arrange on your own. We already have a bazillion SI threads, but you might have better luck starting a new thread in search of players for a particular game type rather than hoping someone ducks into this thread.

Also, I'm not trying to be a game Nazi, but I figure it's best to have a sort of Master Control Program handling the generic "Hey I want to play!" messages to try to make sure everyone gets into a game in an order fashion.

Someone needs to write a web-based Solium Infernum Combat Simulator, because doing it by hand is very time intensive. Anyone up for a game? I'd like to host a new one to try out the mini expansion (old, I know, but I sort of forgot it would come out and didn't play it at the time).

Muahaha, I shall feast on the tender flesh of the weaklings.... err, I mean, new players are of course welcome. I haven't played that many games myself. Let's see if we can recruit another couple of victims - players, I meant players - and we can start the massac... match!

I'm now thinking a normal map with uncommon POPs would be better, to make the game a little less cutthroat form the start.

Delightful, an old enemy! No, I never forget :)

About the infernal census mechanic, I'd like to try it out but I suspect it would incentive players to be more radical turtles. It increases the prestige gulf between active and passive play, making pointless a middle-of-the-road strategy. And since turtles tend to win easily against very active players, they become an even more dominant strategy.
Mmh, but maybe it could work nicely on a small, packed map where cantons are also useful as a buffer for safety - in other words, something worthwhile not only in the prestige game but in the military struggle...

McKnight
01-18-2012, 03:25 PM
I could maybe get in on this, depends on the time commitment.

De_Treville
01-19-2012, 10:38 AM
Ideally I think we should aim for one turn a day, or every two days if someone is busy. No real deadlines though, it's just to keep the game reasonably tight and avoid people losing interest. I can check submissions more often during the weekend, so if everyone has more time to play we can try to squeeze in a couple extra turns, but again no pressure. I'll process the turns in the evening (GMT+1)

So, if McKnight is on board we reached six players:

Fishbreath
Sabin
Diddums
Fizish
McKnight
De_Treville

You can PM me your email address and I'll send out invites. If everybody can use it, I'd like to share the files by setting up a common dropbox folder (http://www.dropbox.com/); if not we'll stick to emails.

Rules of the game:
Patch: 1.08b
Map size: small
Map type: Dante's peak
Places of power: common
Game length: normal
Infernal census: active
Rectification expansion: active
