To stave off the creeping alienation of an independent worker self-identified as part of a subculture in a foreign nation, I turn to you, oh groupthink of the great Beret!

We've got plenty of people poking around the Raleigh/Durham area, and I know there's a thread out there somewhere about BBQ joints, but my googlefu is too weak to find it or anything relevant to this corner of the nation.

What do you recommend in the area, folks?

Are you asking for BBQ suggestions here, or things other than BBQ?

For BBQ, I highly recommend The Pit (http://www.thepit-raleigh.com/).

And is it you that is here, or other people? I am so confused.

Best suggestion I have is to put down all your windows in the car, then drive around sniffing for BBQ, it sounds insane, but I found a place doing this, and the smoke is what caught me. If the place isn't running the smoker at the crack of dawn, you don't want to eat there. Also, make sure the place is ran by a family, generally if it's a mass market dealy, they don't give a flying rat's ass if the meat is awesome, family is where it's at.

Clarification!

Yes, things other than BBQ, but the suggestion will be noted gratefully. First time I had BBQ, ever, was in an flea market in Atlanta a couple years back... I was more than slightly amazed that pork could taste that good.

Yes, I'm in Raleigh right now, and will remain here for the next few months living with my fiancee while our paperwork is being processed.

Where in Raleigh are you at? We just moved to the other side of Garner (although it's still a Raleigh address), but I'm in town almost every day. We might set up a Raleigh Qt3 meetup. I've never met any of the other Raleighites, although Warren is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

We're at Brier Creek (Triangle), and a meetup would certainly be welcome. I think there's a bunch of Qt3s in the area (from here to Charlotte, in fact), but I don't think a gathering's ever been organized.

Sunday brunch was great at this (http://www.tirnanogirishpub.com/) place, though it seemed really bright for an Irish pub.
