What are you all doing on Saturday?

Anyone up for food, alcohol, and karaoke?

Siren

No one?

Raife

I totally would, but it would be kind of a long drive.

Shift6 is driving from Sacramento, which is what prompted this thread. No takers, then?

Wait, aren't you meeting your Craigslist stalker then? Is this really a call for bodyguards?

For anyone on the fence, I can verify that Siren is perfectly normal (enough for Qt3 standards, anyway), picks interesting places for meet-ups, and has good table manners. However, I have no knowledge of her actions during karaoke, so watch out if she makes a move to bar the doors or something.

I will be in the city, but at the SF Street Food Fest (http://www.sfstreetfoodfest.com/), and I honestly have no idea what time I'll be there.

In! Except for a minor scheduling conflict. I'm going to be staying in the Bay Area sometime around September 8th and would love to hang out with some folks that evening. Can I take a rain check until then?

How long are you in town?

Just for the night, passing through on a road trip up to Oregon. I haven't finalized the timing yet, but I'll certainly be bugging folks to hang out once I know when I'll be there. However, I should warn you all: I'm bring Xtien Murawski with me.

-Tom

P.S. Sorry to shanghai your thread, Siren. :(

However, I should warn you all: I'm bring Xtien Murawski with me.

As long as there is no flash photography or sudden movements, I don't foresee a problem.

Of course you're bringing your "traveling companion"...will you be driving your Wii Fit?

I can't wait!

I'm available and interested. But, being a bad singer + easily embarrassed = I likely won't take the mic.

Siren

There's karaoke on the 8th as well, Tom. ;)

And I think I have angered Craigslist stalker guy. I'll be updating that in the other thread. I doubt he'll show.

For those interested, PM me. I'll need to know approximately how many people will show, and whether or not you'll be interested in dinner beforehand. Also, if you will be attending dinner, any dietary restrictions you have.

Hooray for meeting people from the internet!

Karaoke? Didn't they outlaw that with the invention of Rock Band?

Cool though. It's only fitting that we work out our Duets phase before moving on to the Sideways portion of the roadtrip.

Excellent.

Where is karaoke taking place? I would be into dinner if going somewhere with a vegan option doesn't bug everyone. (Burma Superstar on Telegraph in Oakland is an awesome spot for mixed crowds.)

I keep on meaning to try and do more Bay Area QT3 activities, like a regular-ish LAN party or something, so good on you for organizing something!

Man, this is like a facebook page for a high school get-together. No one can make it till the popular kid says he's game.

Well I don't care who Tom brings, I am not going!

(Mostly because I live on the opposite coast, otherwise I would totally be down for drinking and karaoke)

Bahimiron
08-20-2009, 08:30 PM
Maybe you're just misreading this whole thing, mmalloy. Instead of San Fransisco Bay Area, they mean Massachusetts Bay Area. Who wants to go hang out at Faneuil Hall?! We can walk the Freedom Trail and drink a Sam Adams as we climb the Bunker Hill Monument! (Fun fact: it's not actually on Bunker Hill!)

Wish I could come! If the meetup is in Santa Cruz, I'm there. If it's on the peninsula, there's a chance I'll make it. If it's in San Francisco, I can't come.

I don't know any of that Bay Area geography. I lived in Mill Valley until I was 10, but I wouldn't know Oakley from Berkland on a map.

Right now, it seems like we're staying in Oakland on the evening of September 8th. Is there somewhere near-ish there, or kind of centrally located, that we could all hang out?

Karaoke will be taking place at the Napper Tandy in San Francisco. It's at 3200 24th St. This is just a block away from the 24th and Mission BART. As for vegan options, I haven't figured out where we will be going for food. Let me know your phone number via PM, and I'll keep you updated on things as they progress.

Plenty of good hang out options in Oakland, and Berkeley is right next door for even more.

Siren - Papa Lote is also right near the 24th Street Mission stop, and has excellent burritos for vegans and carnivores alike.

Can't we go to that Chinese place Loyd held the GDC meetup at? That was good.

What?! Mission burritos are stupendous. Sorry I can't be there as Silicon Valley is my home, but I have work elsewhere. If I still lived in Santa Clara, I'd be there for sure. But I'm stuck in Florida now, so it's a no-go for me. Would be nice meeting y'all though.

Shift6 is dying to try Naan N' Curry, and I know the guys at the one on O'Farrell (near Powell) personally.

Is anyone up for Indian food?

Shit! That's like a block from my house. When you guys wanna eat a burrito again?

I go here all the damned time. Papa Lote's and Ike's Place are my two Mission staples. Next time I'll let you know!

I can't imagine anyone dying to try Naan N' Curry, but I'm up for it. That Chinese place that Sparky's suggesting did get good reviews, too.

Leah C

Not to rain on the Naan 'n' Curry parade, but the one on O'Farrell's last inspection was a 60/100 and they have a ton of complaint inspections. That place scares me.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that there is far better Indian food to be had pretty much anywhere. I made a vow that I would never return to Naan N' Curry after a particularly bowel-shattering incident a few years ago, but I was willing to give it another shot. 60/100 though? Yikes!

Naan 'n' Chutney is better (there's one on 3rd).

I couldn't agree more, however, he's apparently driven by the one on Van Ness for ages, and has never tried it.

I'll see if I can convince him that a burrito would be better. I'd definitely prefer a burrito or some Chinese.

Edit: Also, the Naan N' Curry on O'Farrell is getting a remodel. Perhaps going elsewhere would be best.

Hey all, the firewall at Siren's work blocks Qt3, so I am here speaking on her behalf:

How would you all feel about Tapas? Ramblas Tapas (http://www.ramblastapas.com/) in the Mission is pretty good, and is the sister restaurant of The Thirsty Bear (http://www.thirstybear.com/), another tapas joint, where Siren took several Qt3ers a while back. It's just around the corner from the 16th and Mission BART station and is a reasonable walk to the karaoke bar.

frank austin
08-22-2009, 01:55 PM
Personally, the tapas menu looks a bit lacking for options for me, so I'll just go ahead and suggest another mixed-crowd-friendly spot, Beretta (http://www.berettasf.com/menu.html). I don't want to be that guy who drags everyone down with dietary restrictions, though, so if everyone else wants tapas, by all means!

Beretta looks nice.

I'm not completely sure whether I'll be making it for dinner or not. I'm still planning to be there later, for sure, though.

What's the plan for times to arrive where?

Another update from teledyne-Siren:

Since everybody has differing appetites, I think it'll be best if we all meet at the Napper Tandy (http://maps.google.com/maps?li=d&hl=en&f=d&iwstate1=dir:to&daddr=3200+24th+St,+San+Francisco,+CA+94110-3906+(Napper+Tandy)&geocode=Ce4WeFlmLSgaFZgOQAIdNRK0-A&iwloc=1&dq=napper+tandy&cid=11696900206189564953&ei=OmaQStabJqT2iwPujtS-AQ) at 9:00pm. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

If anyone's coming from the East Bay and wants a ride, get at me via PM.

EDIT: And if anyone's still into dinner around 7ish somewhere vegan friendly, lemme know!

shift6
08-22-2009, 05:40 PM
The non-QT3 people I was meeting up with, who were insisting on Naan and Curry, have bailed. Thus I am down for whatever, now. If anyone needs a ride from the north tip of the penis^Hnsula, I'm at USF now and can swing by on the way somewhere. Post here and let me know. Don't PM since I probably won't be able to log in again... damn school computers.

Hmmm.. so is someone going to be holding a sign saying, "SHIT BONERZ!!!!" or something for those of us who don't know who to look for? :)

shift6
08-22-2009, 06:16 PM
So some of us are going to congregate at Papalote Mexican Grill (http://www.papalote-sf.com/) (frank, they have tofu and veggie-based foodstuffs!) on 24th St and Valencia around 8pm-ish. I'll probably get there a bit early and critically examine their wine list. After eating some fantastic food, we will make our way to Napper Tandy (http://www.nappertandysf.com/) a couple blocks away at 24th St and S. Van Ness for karaoke and fun. Hope to see you guys there! Everyone except that "I'll be there on a frickin' Tuesday" TomChick guy. :(

Ahh, good call Reptile. Looking for me: I'm a really white guy, short blonde hair, blue t-shirt, black pants. I know what siren, teledyne, and a few others look like so I will keep an eye out for them. Or check the QT3 gallery of awesome people & facebook group for hawt pix or something. If you want to holler out a name and see whose head pops up like a chicken, or you think going up to someone and saying "hey are you [vaguely strange internet handle]?" is weird, I'm Mark.

frank austin
08-22-2009, 07:03 PM
I will be at Papa Lote @ 8, then! Last call for rides from the East Bay!

Two days late, two dollars short for this one, but in general I'm down for stuff on weekends. It's a bit of a drive for me so weeknights are out, though, and for the most part so is drinking 'til I get sick. Not that anyone wants to see that anyway. I don't.

Pics will be uploaded soon. Siren went kinda camera crazy (397 photos, 1.1GB) which will make uploading kinda time consuming. Flickr Free only allows 100MB in uploads per month--does anyone know of a photo hosting site that.

In the meantime, here's a photo of us at the end of the night. ReptileHouse had to leave a earlier in the night--but don't worry!--more will be posted as soon as Siren uses her keen photo eye to sift through them!
