View Full Version : NWN: Manual oddity

Open the manual to page 48 and look at the example picture for a Druid.

Is it just me, or does that look like a blurry webcam photo of an action figure?

Heh. It does!

I'm not impressed with the quality of the manual...the images weren't really prepared properly for print. Too small, too dark, with funky dot-screens. And lovely toner streaks down some of the pages. But I'm fussy about these things. I guess we should be happy to get a manual at all.

And a 218-page one, at that. I think it's fine. I care less about the pictures (which are too dark, granted) and more about the tables and reference data (which is all present and accounted for).

HA, you guys are silly, manuals are good for entertainment value, the tables they provide and the pictures of chicks in armor  I think we should all focus on the game and if the manual sucks, just get a George R R Martin book (try A song of ice and fire) and stop complaining.

I do not know which is worse. The toner that was wasted on your copy was left out of mine. I have light streaks down the center of mine.

It is like they were standing at the $100.00 Konica Copier and someone decided to take the toner cartridge out, shake it a little, and get the last bit of magic dust out of it.

"We done got 3,000,000 more copies to make on this old beauty, Velma, and the boss said, 'Stretch that toner out, boy.' Tomorrow I am scraping the soot off the logs in my fireplace at home. Works just as good, I swear!"

Yeah, I'm just whining about the state of manuals in general. I know they're usually thrown together at the last minute, and generally by game artists or writers with no understanding of print design or process. But it's a shame that more attention isn't paid to details like that, especially as the game boxes get smaller.

I did appreciate the NWN hanky map though. I'm gonna make it into a lovely pillbox hat. Or a bow tie. Or a pair of panties (though if I keep eating root-beer-float popsicles at this rate, I'm going to need to use a bigger map...does Morrowind come with one?).

Making a pair of panties out of the map from a computer game?

If you're not the dream girl of every unmarried guy here, I can't imagine who would be!!

I'd like to officially start the Sparky backlash right about.. now.

There's a fine line between cute and being a female version of Sinner 3001. Those fat jokes are already starting to make me wonder.

Morrowind has a large map, but it ain't made out of cloth. Watch out for those paper-cuts! ye-owie.

Could be worse--she could be a female Wumpus... ;)

Having met Sparky in person, I can attest that she is actually about as fat as Carrot Top is funny.

That should keep carrot top fans effectively away.

YES! I bet my husband yesterday that a Sparky backlash was gathering on the horizon like the great unwashed orc legions of Sauron, and that a little Wumpus would lead them. Woo yay! I get a dollar!

Sparky, you rule!

An answer for everything...If you weren't a chick, you'd be hero! (Maybe I should scratch that, 'cause Tom's a Chick, and he's been my hero for a long time!)

An answer for everything...

But I'm serious, Murph. I won a dollar...and I'm gonna buy some candy. Wumpus may rail against the heavens and shake his tiny fist -- but all the while, I'll be enjoying a roll of delicious fruit-flavored Mentos.

I dunno...this lovefest IS getting kind of disturbing, and I'm hardly the most irritable/on-topic nazi/cute humor hating/troll-like poster on Qt3...

I'm a tad metagrobolized myself, Mr. Dee.

I don't know what that means, but it sounds really, really painful, and if I've contributed to it in any way, I apologize.

But I'm not participating in any "love fests" -- I'm happily married! -- but I do admire her wit, that's all.

"I'll be enjoying a roll of delicious fruit-flavored Mentos"

I like these too, but I've never figured out why. Fruit isn't really the flavor they've captured. It's some sort of Euro-trash chem-fruit that plays upon the synapses like a Greek muse with a scouring brush lyre.

German Chocolate, now mit iodine!
