View Full Version : An apology

I want to apologize for the comments I made in that Turk thread I started.
I don't know, I never know when to shut my damn mouth :( This, combined with my tendency to think and speak in extremes, leads to me saying things I end up regretting.
Tom has told me that two Turkish friends of his visit this forum. To you two, I want to say: I'm sorry, I'm an asshole. I have no right to dismiss every Turk as a social parasite. I am Sorry.
I also want to apologize to the guy in the circumcision thread whose girlfriend I called stupid. I had no right to do that.
I regret the way that whole discussion turned out. People ended up calling me an idiot, a troll, a judgmental prick... This is not what what I want to be. I want the same as you do; come to a discussion forum, hang out there, and, well, discuss things. A bit of hyperbole and snark is something that comes with the territory, but somehow I always seem to overdo it and have difficulties fitting in because I alienate people with the things I say. It's like, everybody is shouting opinions back and forth, and then I say something I have in my head before really thinking it through and the room goes quiet, everybody stares at me and then you hear crickets. It makes me really uncomfortable, and makes me defensive and not behave the way I intend. I don't want to leash out at people the way I often do. I guess I have a lack of social skills that comes from me having been a lonely and shy guy for most of my life. Now, with this anonymous medium of the internet at my disposal, and all these things come out of my fingertips, and my fingers are often faster than my brain.
In short, I'm sorry for being a dick. I'm trying to change, give me some time.
P.S.: I blame Asperger's :/

I didn't read any of those threads you mentioned. So I really have no idea what you are talking about. But it takes a good man/woman to apologize. So good for you.

And let me tell you, it's not easy being a good man/woman!

Agreed. I've posted things I shouldn't have as well (boy, Lordy knows, with as many posts as I have? Couldn't all have been good) so it's very noble of you to apologize.

Generally when 90% of the people involved in the discussion are calling you an idiot, you are, indeed, being an idiot. Pretty much everyone here has posted something they regret, though. I know I have.

When 12,705 posts you reach, as many stupid things you will not have said, hm? *koff koff*

Is this going to turn into a "stupidest thing I've ever posted" thread, complete with links? That'd be great.

We should skip to the part where someone links that BillD thread mocking TRex for being a loony toon, complete with a poll and many links.

Because he had two open-minded young flight attendants staying overnight at his place and didn't invite you over to join them for drinks and a dip in the hot tub ("Whoops; we forgot our bikinis! Guess we'll just have to go naked!"), even though he KNEW you were available at the time and that the one he was less-interested in was just PERFECT for you. THAT'S how.
I mean, who wouldn't be pissy at him over that?

It takes a responsible person to acknowledge when they've crossed a line and apologize for it. Well done.
We've all posted things we regret, except me of course, I regret nothing. NOTHING I SAY! I stand by my assertion that Picard totally kicks Kirk's ass and all you haters can eat it!
What?

I pretty much dropped off QT3 for a month when I realised what an insufferable prick I was becoming.

There was some deeply uncool stuff said in that thread, to be sure. But manning up and apologising is a good call. Everyone says stupid stuff. But being aware enough to realise it and maybe re-examine the attitudes that underpin what you're apologising for is a pretty positive thing, in my book.

You had me until you went the LiveJournal route and blamed being an aspie.
Unless that was sort of a self-aware poking-fun-at-Internet-cliches joke. If so, then good on you!

I wish Tom Chick didn't end up locking the thread. I thought it was a valid subject for discussion and I, for one, was honestly surprised that there were Europeans on this board who seem to hold Turks in such low regard.

Apology accepted. For penance, however, you gotta get cut. Sorry.

I wish Tom Chick didn't end up locking the thread. I thought it was a valid subject for discussion and I,
I don't. "I think Turkish culture has some problems", "Here are some experiences I've had with Turks", and "Turkey is a nifty land that gave us many things, such as Turkish Delight" are all valid subjects for discussion.
"Turks are lazy", is just ignorant hatred, and there's no substance there to discuss.

Turkey makes me lazy, mostly because of the tryptophan.
Or did someone already make that joke in the other thread?
