An appeal

(I resisted posting this all month because I'm still relatively new and after the spambot debacle when I simply mentioned the contest, I figured it was safer to just not say anything further. But there's less than a day left to go and I'm, well, desperate. So I hope you'll forgive me this indulgence.)

For the past month I've been not only participating in, but also a decent contender to win an contest that could be a huge boost to my photography career. Today, with barely a day left to go, I find myself out of the running and scrambling to get back in.

If you have a minute, it would mean a lot to me if you could just read my entry/idea (http://focalmatter.com/dream). If it's something that speaks to you then by all means support it by voting for it, but all I'm asking is that you take a sec and read it.

I was gonna but thought doing so might lend credence to the original accusations of spammery, and I didn't want the pseudospammy nature of my appeal to cast a pall on the spirit of the original thread, if that makes any sense.

It probably sounds defeatist, but I honestly don't expect to win. There are too many ideas far, far more deserving than mine. My only goal this entire time was to finish in the Top 20 and know that I was considered. That I coulda beena contendah.

That said, this really is a dream of mine and something I plan on realizing one day. The $50k would've made "one day" happen a lot sooner, but I do eventually plan on taking a six-month leave from work to make this happen. So I'll definitely be dropping you a line someday. :)

I made it! Thank you all so, so much for reading my idea and voting for it. It was a harrowing last few hours, and I had actually given up at one point because I was a good 25 votes out of the running. Then my sister called me up, screaming that I was #19! :)

Damn, I'm glad you made it! I convinced some IRC fellas I hang out with to take the 1 minute to register and give you a few votes, but I thought for sure you were just out of reach.

Thanks. It was really touch-and-go for a while there. In fact, I actually finished in 22nd place. The only reason I made cut was that there were three ties (including one threeway tie for 2nd place) and they actually submitted 23 ideas. Since I was #22, that made me finish at #19.
