Don't you just love these nut cases?
"Barely two months after a huge recall of peanut-related products, federal officials said late Monday that a California processor would recall about one million pounds of pistachio products because of concerns about salmonella (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/salmonella-enterocolitis/overview.html?inline=nyt-classifier) contamination."

Ok, now this is getting personal. My favorite snack just gone! Gahh.
Kraft Foods said its inspectors visited the California plant where the pistachios were processed, and found that the plant was not keeping its roasted pistachios separate from the incoming flow of raw nuts. Like other nuts, raw pistachios can carry pathogens that are killed in the roasting process.
Holy hell, is that why I've found:
A)Live spiders hiding inside the shells
B)web like structures inside the nuts
c)live worms crawling on the nuts
All of which are also good reasons for why I no longer suck on the nut before shelling it... there were incidents lets call them that put me off of the nut for years.

I bought a package Sunday :/. Ate a handful or so for lunch yesterday! I'll probably still eat some more today.
I too have found the occasional worm though. Ick.

Why the f* didn't the processor's themselves find the salmonella? Or is this another case of, "Ship it anyways we don't care!"

Sounds like recall is up to 2 million pounds. (http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/03/califbased_setton_pistachio_re.html)
Not good news for growers and sellers, definitely bad news for snackers.

The food companies' own tests of the contaminated products isolated four different types of salmonella,
I don't know if the above quote is referring to Kraft's tests, but if it is Setton's own tests it would be another case of shipping known contaminated food.
