The Carter Center is holding an auction (I think they do it annually) of various items, including some things that the Carters have been given over the years.

I like item #34 - a key to the city of La Paz, Bolivia. It would be an interesting conversation starter...
Current bid only $125.
I've got a few more days to psych myself up to bid for it. Eh - it'll probably go for a lot more...
===
Edit - OK, I couldn't even hold out a few days. If no one else outbids me, I will have the key to the city for a mere $140.
DO NOT CHECK UNDER THE DOORMAT! (outside of La Paz) - I will not be so transparent...

Are they strapped for cash or something? I would think the La Pazians would be a bit miffed that their city key was being auctioneed off.

Jesus Christ, that's the greatest auction ever. God I hope nobody hears about it on the internets.

Okay, maybe I'm drunk (I am) but I'm getting WAY too serious about this auction. There are two dozen things that I would gladly plop down $1000 for. And there's one item with a price on it that I consider a ridiculous steal.

I assume that most stuff will go for far more than the current bid. I think I put about 6 bids in, but I doubt that any of my bids will hold out as the high (though I might rebid).
Just stay away from my key to La Paz!
(Yeah, I know, posting a thread about it is maybe not such a great way to keep the bid prices down. Eh - it's ok. The Carter Center is a good cause. If someone here on QT3 wins a bid on something and The Carter Center gets a bit more money than they otherwise would have, so be it.)

Paying $250 for a replica of one of Carter's personal woodworking tools seems a bit much.
I take it all back if you can get him to sign it "from history's greatest monster" though.
That should be, like, one of the minikits you can assemble in Lego Indy.

There's a bunch of great stuff with bids way under it's "value" - I'm especially drawn to the Hunter S. Thompson memorial print - but funnily ebough the signerd harry Potter books valued at $140 has a bid of $2400.

Item #59 is fantastic. I've been looking for something just like that for my foyer!

I guess a lot of folks brought their checkbooks to the live auction - you were short by only $4,360! On the other hand, the signed Harry Potter books went for $10,000. I guess the people of La Paz will sleep a little more soundly knowing their key is in rich hands...
For me, the jaw dropping item was the Presidential Baseball, which went for more than 80K!

Wow.
I put in a high (at the time) bids for like 6 or so things. Stuff went for a LOT more than the early prices though. It appears I was nowhere close to the final prices with my bids. I'm glad to see the auction raised a lot of money.

Farewell, Titanic Memories. May you depreciate more slowly than I expect.

Baseball collectors are a ravenous folk.
Seriously though... who would spend 4500 dollars on that horrible Titanic rug... why was it even made?

You might have been attacked by a bunny, probably just as well you didn't get it.
