View Full Version : What was that site?

I remember some years ago reading a site, which is no longer around, that had questions answered by popular cartoon and game characters. CATS, Thundercleese, Master Onion, etc. Hell, I think it was made by a QT3er.
I wanted to relive the funny with the internet archive or something, but I can't for the life of me remember the site name or URL.
Help, QT3 hive mind!

Do me a favor and skip the first couple months.

That's it! Thanks, Matt.
You know, a person could resurrect that with some nice modern software like Movable Type or whatever, throw in some google ads, and make a pretty nice sum of money.
What with reddit and digg and the gaming blogs eager to lap up whatever the latest meme is and stuff.
I know I would visit every day.

Fun fact: TMOL is the first hit on a google search for "cock hardening situation" (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22cock+hardening+situation%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).

It seems like a moral gray area to me-- using other people's characters to make money. It may (or may not) qualify as fair use, but I was doing it mostly because I enjoyed Forum 2000 and the Conversatron so much and thought it would be fun. It was! For a while.
Besides, while it seemed to be very attractive to a very niche audience, most people didn't care for it. I got linked on Penny Arcade on two separate occasions, and both times it was pretty much a one-day spike in traffic. Which didn't even crash my cheapo vhost plan.

http://truemeaningoflife.com/pictures/bb.jpgNonsense, Forum2000 is a derivative of True Meaning of Life. Report to Room 101 for re-education.
http://truemeaningoflife.com/pictures/seeker.jpgActually, it's the other way around. True Meaning of Life is a derivative of Forum2000.
http://truemeaningoflife.com/pictures/bb.jpgThat's what I said.
http://truemeaningoflife.com/pictures/lambek.jpgDid someone mention derivatives?

Conversatron? Amazingly, there is actually a whole wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q&A_website) on these types of websites.
FFS, I was going to go to sleep by qt4, and this discovery that TMOL has an archive is going to keep me up for at least another hour. I always loved reading this site, and plan to show it to my children, so keep that archive up for another 20 years or Matt, thanks.

It's freshman year all over again. I blame TMOL directly for my first semester GPA.
