View Full Version : I want a sequel to Trespasser

Yeah, I know it sucked. I want exploration, with minor conflict. Nowadays I think a giant persistent jungle island full of dinosaurs and research facilities and ruined old towns could actually work in a game. Survival without constant head shots and retarded human AI. The lonelier the better, really.
Thoughts? I have some questions in relation to Fallout 3 but I wonder what people think of this first...would it ever happen?

I was really pumped for Trespasser back in the day, too. Then I played it, of course. If done well, I do believe another game in that vein could work. Dinosaurs are fun to shoot. Not as much fun as zombies, obviously, but still better than Nazis.

I remember reading the Trespasser developer's site and being so excited for this game. I got it and didn't hate it like most people. It had its moments. Also, now that I think about it, it did a lot of stuff that didn't become standard until later. The physics, naturally. Iron sights (sort of). Regenerating health. No HUD. Limited weapon slots. I can also remember some physics puzzles that showed up in HL2 (and actually worked by then).
I've never really watched those "Let's Play" videos, but I found a Trespasser one (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2818186) once, and it was pretty good. It's just some guy playing through the game and providing commentary. Brings back some memories, and actually has quite a bit of info on the game.
So, yeah, I would totally be up for a Trespasser remake.

Funny thing you should mention Far Cry 2. I remember the first time looking down and seeing my own chest thinking how the game doesn't have much of a hud and tries to convey all information through in game objects. If you could play as a female it would probably be something like this:

I actually played a few frustrating hours with sim crate and the magic arm.

Jesus, I'd almost been able to forget the Foreshortened Supposedly Feminine Mush-Mounds of Doom.

Yeah, from what I hear, it seems like it. But Far Cry 2 just seems like the focus is on respawning guard stations, and killing tons of people in supposedly 'cool' firefights, real guns, etc. But honestly, I don't find mass killing exciting or entertaining any more. I would rather have the option of avoiding fighting. It's not that I mind killing as an option, but I find it overdone and juvenile lately.
Does Fallout 3 offer any hope to a person who would rather forage around a wasteland and not bother to explosively decapitate random bandits in unavoidable skirmishes? I kind of doubt it, as I know what I'm asking for is well outside the norm. I appreciate the atmosphere and art of some of these games but I find them pretty unfulfilling.
I enjoyed Shadow of the Colossus and Morrowind for my exploring fixation.
(I gave up on a certain popular RPG extremely early on once I realized that most people standing alone in forests would immediately attack and chase me....and never ever break pursuit. I understand this to a point, but I came across it far too often. Remove all human characters from the game and leave the animals and I would just explore around for a while before I get sick of it)

Yeah, the developers hyped alot of things that never were able to come to fruition. Namely the game was completely linear, and while ammo was slightly less abundant, you never really were left wanting. But although extreeeeeeemely flawed, I think the core of the game could be tweaked and remade into something excellent, quite easily. Bethesda should just crank this out, as really it removes alot of the sore spots in their recent output. Namely, any attempt to make humans and their assorted dialogue, animations, and actions.

There is an accidental sequel to Trespasser. It's called Alone in the Dark.

No, you can't really avoid fights in the Wasteland, but it's the same guys who made Morrowind, so it offers similar exploration opportunities. There's a couple of perks you can take that you'd like - animal friend (2 levels) which will allow you to avoid animal attacks, and secondly have animals help you, which will allow you to explore with fewer interruptions.
It sounds like you'd also like STALKER, which has a rudimentary ecology, etc. in the zone.

Africa on PS3 might be your cup of tea, although I have no idea how it will play (erm, does anyone?).

What does that have to do with 4chan? Unless 4chan can be invoked every time an image is posted.

It's indicative of a certain defective personality type -- which we see on full display here -- that responds to everything in the form of an annoying, offensive, or utterly random image.

While I was trekking through the jungle of Far Cry 2, I thought that a hunting game or even a non-violent photo shooting (like the upcoming Afrika) would be pretty cool in an engine like this. In FC2 I don't see the birds, monkeys and other animals I hear all around me. That would be pretty incredible if they were all modeled. Um, is a mod possible for something like this?
