Can somebody explain how this isn't the funniest gaffe of the election?

Probably some sort of weird sound system mishap.

I think there have been enough embarrassments from the other side that we can forgive Obama this one. He lost his train of thought, it happens to all of us. It's not like he said something insane, untrue, and presumptuous (http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/21/palin-vp-senate/) (I know it's been linked here but for comparison's sake).

I'm betting he's exhausted.

Also notice, he stops himself and restarts to try and maintain his train of thought, rather than trample what he's trying to say.

As always, the comment section is fun reading.

Biden telling the guy in the wheelchair to stand up is really hard to beat if we're talking just plain funny.
Although McCain's "I couldn't agree with them more" is pretty close.

I'm still in the tank for "My fellow prisoners."

No, McCain's was funnier because he immediately followed up with "I couldn't DISAGREE with YOU..." Man, at this point, I bet all these guys care about is sleeping for, like, 48 straight hours on November 5-6th.
The Couric hijinks has to be up there, as does Biden's comments about FDR and the depression.

The "I couldn't agree with them more" one cracks me up because it's such a "beloved wrestler turns bad" moment. There's no faster way to turn heel than to start insulting the locals, and it works better if you lead in like you're gonna compliment them.

Now I'm just thinking about the part of The Wire season 4 where Carcetti was so far below Royce in the polls, and he was raging and sulking every moment he wasn't in public, but the moment he stepped into view he put on the shit-eating grin and turned the charm up. I'd be willing to bet there's a disconnect between the private and public personas of both candidates right now to rival that (not in the same way necessarily, just to the same degree).

He could claim he'd just watched Chappelle Show and it was an impression of Fisticuffs.
