O presidente Negro: the title of a 1926 brazilian novel about elections in the USA in which a woman, a black man and a (party in power) white dude are running for the presidency.

Actually, it must have been interesting and pretty far fetched for him at the time in a country (Brazil) with the history of slavery it has, and also sharing the discrimination against women that the rest of latinamerica had (and still has, to a point) today.

That he chose to use the USA as the setting of his fictional story is also interesting, as by then the US was asserting itself as a major power for the continent. The rest is just an odd bit of trivia of course (the election "similarities").

Edit: oh, and about the thread title, thatīs the name of the book of course, and it just hit me that it might have some very strong connotations in english? the word itself "Negro" does NOT have nearly the same connotations in spanish or portuguese. We certainly do not refer to it as "the N word" and and I am sorry if I inadvertible offended someoneīs sensibilities.
