So there is a 360 title update coming out for Rock Band today, PS3 will follow and we'll let you know when we have an idea when it will drop. What's in it? A couple of things.

First of all - it updates RB1 so you will still be able to purchase DLC from the Rock Band store. Downloading this patch is required if you'd still like to do that.

Second - Lowers the threshold on gold stars making it easier/possible to gold star songs. This won't affect leaderboards as it only affects the threshold, not the score.

Third - Lately a few songs have had unhittable notes. This should be fixed now.

Lastly - It will allow you to export your songs from the RB1 disc to the hard drive for play in Rock Band 2. Official language follows for this feature-

Nominal fee of $4.99 (400 Microsoft points) required for export of Rock Band 1 soundtrack to compensate music licensors for expanded use.The following Rock Band disc tracks will not be available for export into Rock Band 2: * "Paranoid" as made famous by Black Sabbath, * “Run to the Hills” as made famous by Iron Maiden, and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. In addition, the title update will also be released simultaneously in Europe. Tokio Hotel’s “Through the Monsoon” from the European disc release of Rock Band will not be available for export into the future European release of Rock Band 2. (* Indicates a cover song, all other songs are original master recordings.) Expanded usage rights for these particular tracks were unable to be secured from the music licensors for this feature.

Excellent. I'm doing it as we speak. The only song I'll miss is Sandman. Metallica probably wanted too much $$$.

Anyway, this is a hell of a deal. $5 for 55 songs! (I'm deleting crap I never want to play again!)

Wait wait, you kind of skipped over that last part: you can delete songs from the list after exporting? So you can pick and choose which ones you want exported? That's awesome! I want most of them exported anyway, but I'll be really glad to get rid of a couple of songs.

Yep, they show up as game saves under Rock Band. Goodbye "Timmy!"

Very cool. I'm assuming now RB2 becomes the "platform" from which to play? Some questions then (which noone here might have the answers to, but anyways...):

1) what about RB1 achievements? Assuming those will still have to be earned playing the songs within the RB1 environment (i.e. off the RB1 disc).
2) How much HDD space will all 55 songs take? I currently have over 2GB allocated to RB on my 20GB drive, mostly through DLC. Might have to actually purchase a whole new drive just to play RB?
3) will this allow less scrupulous gamers to offload all the RB songs to drive and then resell/trade-in their RB disc?

Crap I liked Paranoid, does this mean that it will never be seen on RB2 or that it could be put on as part of DLC for it at some later point? What did they mean by unhittable notes being fixed? Is GGHT now easier to do with expert guitar?

1) There will still be a Rock Band 1 leader board. RB2 will have separate leader boards and achievements and there will be a "on disk" score and a total score that includes DLC and RB1 songs.

2) 1.52GB for all 55 songs.

3) Sure. They still have to pay the $5 fee. And if they want to re-export them in the future they will need the original disk.

Does exporting the songs affect Rock Band 1 at all or does it still read the songs off the DVD?

I'll have to see if the load times are faster.... hmmmm......

Sweet!

So my hopes came true and it really was the last time that I'll ever have to sing that song!

Here's my gonzo list:
Timmy
Train Kept a Rollin'
Fallout Boy
Honest Bob
Epic
Sabotage (I personally don't mind this song, but my wife hates singing it -- damn talky bits)

I plan on getting rid of:

29 Fingers
Brainpower
Blitzkrieg Bop
Day Late Dollar Short
I get By
Seven
Timmy
Ballroom Blitz
Electric Version
Here It Goes Again
Main Offender
Wave of Mutilation

That would make the footprint roughly ~1.4 gigs.

My heart weeps because you're deleting Wave of Mutilation.

Also, is there any solid release date for this game, which is supposedly due this month? I had some games to trade in, and since there was absolutely nothing that I wanted, i put it all down on Rb2 disc. Now I am impatient.

If it were purely up to me, I would probably be getting rid of these:

Ballroom Blitz
Blitzkrieg Bop
I Think I'm Paranoid
Maps
The Hand That Feeds
29 Fingers
Blood Doll
Nightmare

I will probably be prevailed upon to keep Maps, I Think I'm Paranoid, and Blitzkrieg Bop.

Supposedly Sunday Sept 14th.

Hi, me.

Anyway the load times are not noticeably faster, so I'd say it's still reading them off the DVD.

What is faster is the updating songs list when you first start the game. As in: it's basically gone.

Also, some songs were re-alphabetized so that And Justice For All is the first song instead of (Take these) Chains Off. (Must have cool DLC for you to notice this. :))

Furthermore, what's the usual turn-around from shipping a gold master for duplicating to hitting store shelves? I saw a post on the RB forums saying that they're hoping for Sept 14, but the reason they haven't officially announced it is that it's not official yet. How much longer can they go without announcing it before the date has to slip?

I know someone who works as Gamestop. He checked the 'puter and said they're supposed to get the game Sept. 8 and hold it until the 14th.

Whoah, 2 weeks ago, when I pre-ordered, I was told the RB2 release date for the Ps3 would be mid+ October.

Yep. Short exclusivity period on the 360.

FUCK YES ROCK BAND 2 MOTHERFUCKERS! WOooooooooooooooooooo

also, a little note based on my PAX playtime: there are now drum solos. Spoonman was the only song I saw it in, the Hmx guys said they're kinda rare just based on whether or not song can accommodate an actual drum solo.

There's a report on the RB forums that the Ion kit won't be shipping till Sept 15, which means it probably won't get to me till October. Gah! I am so f***ing sick of having my streak randomly broken by phantom hits.

There is a god. I was afraid it was going to be an all or nothing sort of deal.

2) 1.52GB for all 55 songs.
Wow. That's a lot less than I thought. Maybe I don't need this ludicrously overpriced 120GB drive that I just bought.

The only song I'll miss is Sandman. Metallica probably wanted too much $$$.
It probably had to do with the imminent release of Guitar Hero: Metallica. I'll miss Enter Sandman, too, but, as I said over at Fidgit, for an entirely different reason (http://fidgit.com/archives/2008/09/rock-band-2-noshows-announced.php#comments).

I've got 8.5GB left. I wonder if all of RB2 will fit? Hmmmmmm...... no need to jump the gun right now, with the 60GB coming out later.

Has anyone ever had the guitar-audio cut out in the middle of a song? It just happened to me in the middle of the last GG&HT solo, while I was doing pretty well. Not sure if this is an old bug, a new bug from this update, or some quirk. I could play the notes, but got no sound out of them. All of the background stuff was still going.

Rarely. I've had it cut out completely once in a game, and a couple times momentarily.

Considering the hours (days, weeks, maybe months) of playtime I've put in, I'm cool with it. Of course, it could've been my 360 crapping out, who knows.
