View Full Version : Odd Impulses...

So last night I'm having trouble sleeping, so after trying to read and still not being able to sleep, I get an odd impulse...

I needed, HAD to, at that moment, watch Batman: The Animated Series!

I dunno WHY this urge came over me, but I watched some great episodes from the fourth volume, including "Never Fear" and "Mad Love."

After that, I felt satisfied, went back to bed, and with some help (a lovely iPhone app called "aSleep"), I fell asleep just fine. Weird, huh? Any of y'all get odd impulses like that?

Anyway, hope y'all are having a delightful day!

I always hated Never Fear.

The idea that removing a person's fear also entirely removes their survival instincts and moral core always struck me as a little silly. Suggesting that the only reason we don't just kill on a whim is because we fear being caught sounds like the kind of argument that fundies make when insisting that an atheist world would be one filled with rape and death.

My similar impulses (also relatively strong ones) usually involve getting up and spending ten or 15 minutes with a good late night Cinemax/Showtime movie selection. After that, surprisingly, much of my anxiety is gone and I can get right to sleep. Does that count?

It might be a bit silly, but I like the question is asks, basically what are we capable of if we have no fear to hold us back?

The question is easy to ask, and not terribly in & of itself. What's interesting is the answer given. It's a very uninteresting person that turns into the kind of person that Bahimiron describes, and a story based around that kind of person doesn't sound terribly interesting.

And if the episode tried to make the point that that's what most of us would turn into.... no. Just no.

I honestly don't think, in the case of this episode, Batman's fear was getting caught. I think his fear was crossing that line that the criminals he fights cross all the time, a line he's sworn never to cross.

I personally think the answer to this question would probably differ from person to person, based on their fears and experiences.

Wow, this derailed right away. I didn't think this thread had anything to do with Batman episodes.

I've developed a test for tapioca pudding and Barbie poptarts right before bed. I almost have to have one or the other (sometimes both) before I go to sleep. I eat it while reading Marvel Essentials (oh, another comic connection!).

How can you tell the difference between tapioca pudding and Barbie pop-tarts?

I keep my work laptop in the case beside the bed. If I have one of those anxious moments when trying to fall asleep I browse and sometimes post on QT3. Usually about 30 minutes of that will put me to sleep.

My Boss is a true insomniac though, and will frequently get less than 4 hours of sleep. He's also borderline genius so we sometimes come in to work and he will have worked on or created something that makes you understand just how little the "sleepers" contribute to society.

If I'm having trouble sleeping I just smoke a little meth... and then stay up all night scrubbing my house.

Hahahaha...I'm still laughing at this one. Well done sir, almost made me do a spit take. Well done, indeed.

Qt3 just got burned, I think.

I am likewise curious but leery.

Heh, funny you mention that. I got all the Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond DVD sets last month when Amazon had a big sale, and have been going through both. I like Batman Beyond a lot more now than I did originally because I'm not comparing it to The Animated Series. It's a fantastic show on its own, which is impressive given it was created from scratch.

I don't think I ever have odd impulses, other than making a quick decision that I want a chalupa and pulling into the Taco Bell up the road, or getting a Mean Bean Monster energy drink, or some Slim Jims.

I always loved Batman Beyond, even as a part of the animated series.

Hell, without Batman Beyond there would never have been a Justice League.

Barbie poptarts have images on them, of butterflies and princesses and just the word Barbie (seriously). You can find them in the poptarts section of any store. Check. They have pics right on them! Made with lasers or something!

Anyway, they taste excellent, if you like sweet poptarts. They have a bit more filling than regular poptarts and it's a cool berry flavor. I bought it the first time as a sort of joke to impress my wife. But now I'm addicted. And no, I'm not making any of this up. I can take pics, if it helps.

For a while I also liked the Barbie cereal. It tastes like lightly flavored air.

It's even worse than I feared.

Barbie poptarts ... I can take pics, if it helps.

Yes, please. Three of them:

One: a photo of you actually putting it into your mouth.
Two: a photo, taken immediately after One, of you chewing the pop tart.
Three: a photo taken immediately after swallowing the same pop tart.

True that, and I like how Batman Beyond got the ending it deserved IN the Justice League cartoon.

Not sure why this is so hard to believe. Anyway, here are the pics. One of my pantry (with my 3 boxes of reserves) and one of my bedside with two empty boxes (one being used as a trashcan for old wrappers and the other was just finished last night). Gotta open a new box tonight. That's an Essential Avengers that you see the corner of. Oh and a fresh tapioca! The picture on the box is a pretty accurate representation of what they look like. The pantry was posed for the pic a bit (I angled the boxes). The bedside was not.

I'm not posting photos of my chewed food. Surely my word plus these pics is ample proof. I have no children, so it's just me and the wife. She finds them too sweet.

Actually, they aren't that unhealthy, and I usually only eat one and save the other for the next night. Plus, I have a high metabolism. I weighed myself yesterday. I'm 5'10, 162 lbs.
