"While the cause of death has not been confirmed, Mac had been hospitalized recently for a bout with pneumonia, one he seems to have unfortunately lost. "
Sad.... if true... Since the rumors that he died have been circulating for a week, this might just be another extended joke.

I knew Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were dying, but this is the first I've heard of Bernie Mac.

Some of the reports are mentioning a "lung related" issue that was preexisting as playing a role. So, there was probably more involved than just typical pneumonia.
Still very shocking, though.

R.I.P. Mr. Mack.
This post should be in the Movies section, though. They guy was in 25 movies, you know.

There was an episode of Bernie Mac where he taught a little boy to make a crazy face and say "I don't play!" to bullies. It was an awesome show, and my wife and I still say that to each other sometimes.
I never watched his TV show. I've never seen a comedian whose sitcom was better than their standup, with the exception of Martin Lawrence.

But his biggest achievement is arguably the Bernie Mac Show, so it's just as appropriate to put the thread here.
This one came out of left field. I'm not a big Bernie Mac fan but it's always sad to see someone struck down in their prime.

Not even Seinfeld? I confess I didn't see much of his standup, but it didn't seem particularly special, whereas the show achieved a kind of brilliance -- probably, now that I think of it, because of the non-Seinfeld cast members, particularly Jason Alexander.

And he was in a bajillion TV shows, stand up, and voice work in video games.

Yeah that's what I was going to say to anyone who brought up Seinfeld... the show's real backbone was the excellent characters that were around Seinfeld. The main character himself I didn't really find all that funny, he had a sort of stupid look on his face where he was smiling at his own jokes. It wasn't a Jimmy Fallon level of stupid but it got close sometimes. His standup is a much better organized and delivered facet of what you see on the show.
