This game is too simple for my taste but it really makes me want a complex class based, fantasy themed multiplayer game on a console. Something that is a mix between Guild Wars arena matches and Warhammer Online Scenarios. Skip all the mmo and pve crap, I want to have FPS style matches but with fantasy archetypes i.e. tanks, healers, dps.

As someone with an extremely fast metabolism (and small appetite) who has to go out of his way to eat more in order to maintain a healthy body weight, I'm really offended by everything in this thread.

So where the hell's the demo?

The healing really annoys me so far. If you're moving in a gaggle (which you have to if you want to get anything done) and see five smiley faces with one near death frowney face, how the hell do you select it? The best I can do in a fight is just spam my AoE heal all over the place.

Anyone playing add me as a psn friend : cyclohexene.

I've been enjoying it so far except for when it takes 5-10 to get a game.

I was able to get into games more reliably tonight, but there was no patch, so I'm not sure if they have fixed online or if the stars were just aligned better for me. It really is pretty fun when it works well. I do wish more people had mics, since coordinating different classes is pretty key to victory.

I still can't get into a game. I got into one last night that promptly froze. Since then, the game is essentially non-working for me. I spend plenty of time looking for a game, sometimes finding one and trying to connect, and then getting dumped back to the start screen.

(Blue, I guess you're "merryprankster" on PSN? I can't keep you people and your goofy names straight when you insist on having multiple goofy names.)

Sorry. I used to be merryprankster everywhere, but somone snaked my name on live when I was offline for a bit. Guess I never changed my Sony name over to the new one.

There are dudes in our base killing other dudes!!!!!!

I thought he said "They're in our base, killing our dudes!" This meme: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/I_am_in_your_base_killing_your_d00ds

Anyway, I played online last night. First two attempts to connect were slow, and eventually failed to connect.

Third attempt worked. I had a hard time telling who was a bot and who was a real person. One guy on the other team had a name over his head, and was marked "General: " and I don't know what that means. In the middle of the second round, the host dropped, and it made ME the host. It still appeared like there were a few real people with all the bots, but it's so hard to tell.

I'll say this much: people need to learn to play. Never before have I wished I had a PS3 headset so badly. I'm buying one today. I build the catapult, and all we need to do to win is get like six people loaded in that sucker to fly into their castle, nab the princess, and run out. But nobody else would get into the catapult. I tried pressing up to yell "help!" but only one player would follow me, which I assume was a bot. I desperately wanted to yell (GET IN THE DAMN CATAPULT MORONS!) but they kept running through the middle of the map to assault head-on.

Finally we won when I managed to get a worker over there and build the springboard that vaults you over the wall into the princess room. A handful of our guys saw that and figured it out, and we managed to get several people on the princess and out of there.

anyone know of a cheap headset that will work with the ps3?

As long as it communicates via Bluetooth, it should work with the PS3, no?

Pretty much. I think USB headsets work too?

The official PS3 headset is good quality and not too expensive.

cheeeeap.... $40 isn't cheap imho.

then again it looks like I may be able to use my blue tooth headset for my cellphone. I can't see why not.

Yeah, I didn't think $40 was all that cheap either. I'm still hoping they actually bundle it in a future PS3 game that I actually want to play (i.e. something other than MGS4 or SOCOM). Like maybe if MAG turns out to be awesome, and it comes with a headset, that could be a nice deal. I don't think I'll be getting a cellphone that supports a blue-tooth headset anytime soon, so that's definitely not a factor.

I read on 1up that jostiq says there is a develepor blog that says a patch is coming that will hopefully sort out some of the online issues. Hope it works out, I like the game but all the online issues kinda drive me nuts.

(happy now Tom. ;)

1up says no such thing. Instead, they cite Joystiq which cites the developers' blog (http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/update-from-titan-fixes-coming/). Is everyone on the internet just allergic to sources?

In related news, I still can't play this stupid game. From where I'm sitting, it looks like another goat rope of a launch.

tried to get in to a multiplayer game 3 times last night. Succeeded once. I don't have a headset yet (working on it) but was chaotic as all hell.

Appeared to be just a deathmatch, no FP was on the playing field at all.

I hate to say it but given the fairly pervasive lack of mics (and therefore coordination) capturing a princess generally ends up as a pretty dull stalemate. Deathmatch, while not as potentially interesting, at least doesn't drag on forever.

I'd love to get a group of us together as team, I think this could be an amazing game when played as a coordinated effort. (assuming they can get the game working well)

Also, assuming that the group of us that get together have headsets. I wouldn't be surprised if even among the Qt3 friends list, there is a general lack of headsets (that includes me).

Yeah, that has sort of become the Achilles Heel of online gaming on the PS3. Fat Princess makes me fear that MAG is gonna be an absurdly disorganized mess, if no one can communicate a coordinated assualt is just impossible.

Which is why I'm hoping they bundle it with a headset. Surely that's one game that cries out for a headset bundle.

My PC's USB headset (sennheiser 166) seems to work fine in PS3 - it's recognized as an audio device and I can hear sound from it.

I'm downloading it now, and I could use friends if someone wants to try this out! (realtoun on PSN)

Just wanted to give people with FP a heads up that a patch has been released and it seems to have helped with the connection issues. It hasn't taken more than 2 tries for me to get a game. Joining friends also seems to be working pretty reliably as well.

I'm definately digging this game, especially when I'm on a team with at least a few people who understand how to play.

I notice the same.. after that small patch connecting to a random game was really fast on my first attempt.

Just wish more people used some sort of headset.

Is anyone enjoying this game? I remember a bit of hype before it's release, but then it sounded like there were connection issues and other things that marred it. What's the scoop for those people who bought it?

merryprankster

I like it, but i'm not sure I recommend it. So much depends on getting into a good room with people who want to play as a team, that the experience can vary greatly. The lack of a party system of any kind means you can't get a group together and launch into a game, which doesn't help anything (basically you need to join a game and then have others join in).

That being said I've had some really fun times with this game.

If anyone wants to try to get together some evening this week and play I'm definately game. Wed/Thurs nights are both good for me.

Is there still a healthy player base? When I was in the beta it was like 2 real people and 10 bots.
