View Full Version : What the hell is a "terrorist fist bump"?

I know FOX is supposed to be this bad but I guess I assumed it was mostly hyperbole.

Less than a week later and they announced that she was losing her show. I doubt it had anything to do with the terrorist fist-jab comment, though.

God, it drives me nuts when any network news program has an expert on to discuss common sense stupid shit. Drives me nuts! Asking questions like they are some kind of moron alien that has never been to Earth. 'Look at your screen! The President is doing something that humans do! The President of America! Crrrrazy!'
And I figure if Obama scratches his nose it's a Terrorist Nostril Flick.

You know that there is some dumbass somewhere just eating that shit up, and sending out chain emails about how Obama and his wife were clearly displaying Islamofascist insurgent street gang militia hand signs on national TV while not wearing flag lapel pins and disrespecting religious gun owners.

If this didn't do it, then surely calling Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/11/fox-news-calls-michelle-o_n_106655.html)" would. I mean, it's possible that they're so ignorant about black culture that they think that "baby mama" is something that black people call the mothers of their children regardless of marital status, but I doubt it.

She's not doing herself any favors by putting up a bunch of literate angry letters at the end there.
The comparison to the right-wing hat rants filled with badly misspelled swear words is astounding.

If someone posts a poorly-worded rant on the internet, does that invalidate the belief systems of those who agree with them on some issues?

I know it can be hard to understand, but I'm talking about a *relative* difference. I'm not saying that they're brilliant, just that it's far, far milder.
When I looked there was one letter that used that tone, and they were trying a (admittedly stupid) "how do you like it?" tactic.
It's still a far cry different from calling someone a "fagot".

No, but it usually helps those that disagree with them feel like they're in the right camp. And that's all you want since no liberal reads Malkin hoping to find something to agree with her on.

Which, if I were trying to establish my site as a beachhead of controversy, and my opponents as drooling idiots, I would doubtlessly plant.

Something y'all need to remember: This can only help Obama's cause. Believe it or not, most people, even on the Far Right, do not want to associate with this kind of thing. Nobody's going to go from "undecided" to "voting for McCain" because of this. So this will have much the same effect that all the venom spewed at Bush in '04 had on Kerry. It will motivate Obama's base without really helping to move folks into McCain's camp.
What concerns most of the folks about Obama right now is that they cannot afford to pay more taxes, and Obama's been talking about expanding social programs. It's generally a bad idea to raise taxes when the economy's down. A lot of what he said early in the primaries along these lines he's taken back, but that leads to uncertainty about what he really stands for. Granted, uncertainty is a better place for him to be than certain that he's out to cut your take-home pay. The idea will get in their heads that "terrorist fist bump" is the best the opposition to Obama can muster, and the idea of Obama won't look so bad.
So, let the Fox Bimbos and Michelle Malkins of the world sell a story to people who already agree with her, and at the same time make the opposition to Obama look idiotic to those who don't.

Then they will be glad to know that they will almost certainly pay less in taxes (http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/jun2008/db20080611_220050.htm?chan=rss_topStories_ssi_5) if Obama is elected rather than McCain.

Between the fist-bump, the baby-mama and Fox's general obnoxiousness, I would anticipate that the Obama campaign will at least consider refusing to do any debates sponsored by Fox News. Can he afford to do that? Would the debate go on without him, with an empty chair on the stage?
I think if he's going to shun Fox debates, he should make that announcement sooner rather than later.

They'd already done so in the primaries.
There are no shortage of crappy networks eager to fuck up the Presidential Debates - why go with the crappiest?

It's a little different in the primaries. When all the Democrats agree not to debate on Fox, you have the network saying, "What are you, chicken? Bawk BAWK!", but it doesn't really become a campaign issue. But in the general, with only one candidate boycotting Fox, the dynamics are decidedly different.

He should do a FOX debate, its a win win.
Chances are Fox would bend over backward to try and prove they aren't biased, and if they don't, any cheap shots would make Obama look sympathetic.

jerri, maybe so, but I'm sure hoping he sticks with it. Giving them any pretense of legitimacy as a source of coverage would just be greatly disappointing.

Actually - so far both candidates have eschewed network sponsored debates.
ABC offered to sponsor a townhall in NYC, both the Obama and McCain campaigns turned them down.

Frustrates me to no end that there are soooo many ignorant awful people in this country... making money no less instead of living in a trailer down by the river like they should be.
