I finally got around to installing Arcanum that I got from gogamer. The problem is that it's just the cds, no manual and I'm abit lost at how to build up my character and such. Does anyone know of any sites that specializes in game manuals?

Well, simply put, Googling "Arcanum manual" (sans quotes) brings up a few candidates.

Thanks, the pdf one at the top was what I was looking for. I knew that if the installation hints at wanting you to read the manual before playing, that there is alot of info for this game.

Glad you found it. I would have linked to it myself, but I'm wary of directly directing people to things of indeterminate legitimacy.

One thing that's annoying is when they print CD keys on the manual. I reinstalled Company of Heroes recently and damn if I had to dig through a ton of stuff trying to find the damn manual. I really wish we'd move away from this copy protection stuff and make something more transparent to the user.

I have a stack of manuals about a foot high for this very reason. Still, I'd rather the CD key be on the manual than on the inside of the case or even worse, on a little card by itself that is just begging to be thrown away inadvertently in a stack of receipts, Guild Wars.

Thanks for saying that, last night I threw out the dual box edition of Fallout 1 and 2, and I just checked now to make sure there wasn't any cd keys on the box.

The CD key should be printed on the CD. And then there should be an optical scanner inside the CD drive that will automatically read it in.

Is it a generic European rerelease with XPLOSIV (ugh) written on the side, in an orange border? If so, that's the version I received off of Goozex. It's a DVD case with just two CDs and no manual. Well, there are installation instructions, but they are printed on the inside of the slip cover. The manual is on the Installation disc - just do a quick run on your CD drive and you should see the Manual folder. Ah, the glory of the PDF.

Nope, just a dvd case with 2 CDs in it, and Xplosiv is not on the box. The manual found on google seems to be it, minus any screenshots of the interface and such.

I love when threads turn into tutorials on how to use google in less than 3 posts.

A link (http://justfuckinggoogleit.com/search?q=arcanum+manual) would've been even better.

I've been tempted to replay this one, myself. I remember thinking it was a butt ugly game when it first came out, and that's scared me from reinstalling it. Plus, I hated the turn-based gameplay, but that's the one I wanted to use. In other words, the combat was broken for me.

But I wrote one of the little books in the game (don't know if they used it, but I got a free copy for writing it), and I never found it in the game because I quit playing too soon. So I'd like to play it again for that reason, if nothing else. Plus, the world is pretty cool.
