We're good at two things here. Software and delivering pizzas.

$119.95 Australian dollars - $113 US dollars.

Your currency sucks people. Try selling shit loads of Iron Ore to China, instead of buying their Plasma TV's, to help it along a bit :-). I suppose it does increase your export earnings, as in the case of GTA IV :-)

Anybody who paid anything like $120 didn’t look around much. I haven’t seen the standard edition anywhere for over $100 and most places seem to be around $85.

6 million sales means that approx 1 in every 1000 people in the world bought GTA4. That just blows my mind. It blows my mind that we are capable of simotaeously releasing something to that percentage of humanity all in the same day.

If it was selling for $60 in the US, people in other countries must be getting screwed for the average price to be over $83.

It's selling for ~75 Euros in Portugal (~115 USD). Oh and around 120 Euros for the collectors edition.

If games ever started costing more than 100 dollars per game in the US, I couldn't afford the hobby anymore.

Of course you could. It's called inflation.

It's a good thing you know his situation better than he does!

So that opening beat Halo 3, then? Since I'm not a Halo fan, I didn't really track its performance but I can't imagine it beating GTA4--that's a monstrous amount of money.

He said "ever", not "now". Of course, if he'll never be able to afford $100 games then I'll truly feel sorry for him (especially if he can afford $60 games today).

Yeah, by about $200 million.
However Halo 3 sold more units?
5 million vs 3.6 million for GTA IV.
They are even pointing out that it beat Pirates of the Carribean which grossed $404 million on it's opening week.(which is the record for a movie opening)

Don't worry it will be a $19.99 special edition someday. You can probably pick up the PC version for 9.95 sometime in 2012. Inflation on new games still won't stop the fact that old games will always be cheap.

Except microsoft ones....Age of Empires III is still $29.99.
