Why did Fox news even report that? And furthermore, why am I reading about it here?

I dunno, I guess it's news when a CALLER makes a comment on a radio show now.
Soon we'll have news stories about reader email or comments left on someone's Myspace page.

Can't see the youtube clip from work - I heard the woman call Rush and tell him that Obama looked like Curious George to her, and he pretty immediately cut her off, said he could not even respond to that kind of joke, and then after the break said that he didn't know who Curious George was until his show producer (a black man) told him during the break. He was also pretty careful to "not go there."
Even though he didn't make the comment, or support it or encourage it, etc. I thought "oh boy, this is going to get a lot of media play" - what is in the youtube clip?

Yeah, Rush handled it respectably, which I'm kind of surprised, honestly. It says more about his crackpot listeners. :)

Listening to Rush when I can, about two hours a week, it is clear that he is more of an entertainer than anything else. I can understand how he and Carville get along so well together (they apparently have dinner on occasion.) And I've doubt that he is a racist in any way - he dislikes any liberal, and makes no exception for race.
Read an in-depth article in some magazine about two years ago - someone help me out, was it Vanity Fair? Esquire? Basically one of the comments from someone on Rush's staff, made under anonymity, was that Rush was an extremely intelligent man who is sometimes really bothered by some of the more ignorant and idiotic callers, but he understands why his show attracts them and understands that they are a reason that he is a very wealthy and powerful man today. Obviously not so bothered that he doesn't continue to make money off of them.

jeff, Rush is the epitome of evil. Please get it straight before Brian Rucker stops liking you again.

Don't you know? Bob Rucker and Jason McCullough are just alternate names I use here - I like to argue all sides. :)

Err, what? From the youtube clip, he laughs while saying, "Don't make me laugh," and then says, "I can't laugh at that." Then there's a cut and he states and restates he doesn't know what Curious Geogre is. It sounds more like a false denial than acting respectably.

I'm going off my memory of the Rush clip, they happened to be playing it when I had the misfortune of landing on the local Air America channel.

Speaking of racism, people have been telling me I look like The Man in The Yellow Hat since I was in high school :(

As someone who already voted for Obama, hopes to vote for him again, donated money to his campaign and is about as unracist as you can get while still being pretty much fully euro-decended cracker... he does kind of look like Curious George.
I wouldn't bring it up on my own simply because I wouldn't want to reinforce the lame stereotypes of black people being like monkeys (the resemblance here has more to do with the facial expression caricature than skin color in any case), and it didn't really occur to me until pointed out and I don't endorse the caller calling up a right wing talk show and making such a comment that is at best thoughtless but I have to admit, I see the resemblance.

We're pretty comfy saying George Bush looks like a chimp...
Mind you, humans look kinda like monkeys, generally speaking, so there you go.

OK, to be fair, we need comparison pictures of Hillary and McCain with the fictional cartoon characters they most resemble.

Otherwise we might have a balanced budget and thousands of people would still be alive.
