View Full Version : Does Viagra expire?

So, I have some Viagra left over from years ago, before our first kid was born. Now that we're done having kids, the prospect of a festive sex life is re-emerging on the horizon.

My question: is three-year-old Viagra likely to have chemically degraded into something obnoxious? Or is it probably just fine? Googling yields very little clue here; the official manufacturer's site is "shelf life one year" which says nothing about whether that's just because they want you to buy more, or whether it actually does lose effectiveness after that long.

(On the bright side, it looks like MDMA is one of the most stable chemical compounds known. Not that that has anything to do with anything, or anything.)

There was actually a thread along similar lines about medicine and expiration dates (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=38628) a little while ago. Consensus was that it will most likely just lose some effect, and that expiration dates are pretty much put on there arbitrarily for "just in case" legal purposes, if I remember right.

Or it's possible that he'll get a superpowered Hulk boner that bursts through his jeans whenever he gets angry.

Shit No. That stuff just gets stronger with age. Why do you think the ads are always warning about 6 hour boners?

You be careful.

From what I recall from my biochemistry and cell biology classes last year: Viagra will decompose from light and heat, so it might lose effectiveness, but the only stuff that will hurt you from the decomp products are probably from the plastic.

But I'm not sure about whatever compounds they use in the binding agent.

Yes it does. You can tell because the pills go soft.

Only if you drill very small holes in it.

What if you strap it to a guided missile? Will it make you gnaw on your hand until it falls off?

Thanks folks. The V in question has been in a closed airtight container for three years, so sounds like it's not likely to kill me, anyway. I doubt that priapism is any more of a risk now than it was originally. Hell, I probably won't use it at all, but I was curious.
