Beyond the Jihadist War (http://blogs.stratfor.com/friedman/2008/01/08/annual-forecast-2008-beyond-the-jihadist-war/)

Editor’s Note: This week’s Geopolitical Intelligence Report is the introduction to Stratfor’s Annual Forecast for 2008.

Because this is the intro to the full 35-page report, it covers an awful lot of ground while skimming through most of the details. But almost all of these topics -- how the dollar is becoming more important at the same time it's becoming weaker, how Russia needs to capitalize on Iraq now, and how the USA and Iran are at the point of coming to a deal -- were covered by Friedman in past episodes in much more detail.

(Good stuff for your brain if you're tired of e.g. CNN devoting more coverage to Britney's meltdown than to geopolitical issues, Fox trying desperately to toe the Right's party line or random leftist bloggers extrapolating based on not knowing very much.)

Giving that article a cursory read, I think he's utterly insane on some points. Honestly, Stratfor was so hawkish for the Iraq invasion that I have a pretty jaundiced view on anything its employees would publish (let alone Friedman himself).

Are you confusing George Friedman with Thomas Friedman?

IIRC Stratfor's position was always that Iraq was a distraction from the hunt for al'Qaeda and inherently destablizing. They're not neocon by any stretch of the imagination.
