So I'm considering doing some kettlebell training to augment my other workouts, but I'm really torn right now as to whether it's a fad or whether it's really as good as everyone says it is. Anyone here do KB training a lot that can offer an opinion? And do you really need to go to a class in order to get maximum benefit (and minimum injury) or is getting Pavel's book(s) enough?

It hacks your fat off without the dishonor of dieting and aerobics.

That actually looks pretty cool. Too bad I'm incredibly poor, or I'd think about getting one.

Is the entirety of the increased efficacy of training the fact that you can grab on and throw the thing around without having to worry about it torquing out of your grip, so you therefore have to deal with dynamic control of a pretty decent sized weight (rather than the more static muscle workout you get with traditional lifting)?
I can see how that would work. I can also see how a novice would get halfway through a maneuver without realizing they were too fatigued to be doing it in the first place, lose control, and really hurt themselves or their surroundings.

Having the weight positioned beneath the hand instead of outside is one of the big benefits, and the fact that you can turn your hand through motions is the other. That's about all I know.

Don't forget the benefits of yelling "What ho, Phineas!" as you sling your giant metal balls about.

You really might be better off asking on The Underground Forum (http://www.mma.tv/) than a gaming board.
