Some years are just shit. I know I'll be happy to see the end of this one, so, on a full scale of 1-5 how would you rate 2007?
Here is hoping 2008 is a better one.

Pluses:
My business has grown enough for me to eschew side-jobs and pursue this for at least another year.
I love my girlfriend.
I love our house.
I love our friends.
For the most part, I love our families.
I'm celebrating 15 months of without a nicotine dependancy. Go me.
Minuses:
I lost my Grandmother on my Mom's side this year. I'm incredibly close with my family, especially on my Mom's side, and losing her was like losing a parent. She's the first person close to me I've ever lost, and I still cry when I think about how she's not around anymore. Fuck.
Two of my friends have lost family members. Seeing how it's effected them is painful. One friend lost his father to a massive stroke, the other had to watch her Grandfather waste away in hospice.
Had a medical emergency, and no medical insurance.
My car died.
My property taxes went up.
Barely making ends meet financially sucks.
2007:
Not the worst year of my life, not the best. 2008 looks promising.

It's your standard 1-5 scale.

2006 was a 1, then. 2007 is better, maybe a 3:
Pro: got out of management and back into development
Nobody close to me died
my relationship with my wife improved
my daughter's school year is going better than last year
Con: My job could still be better
some lingering medical issues
two of our pets died
my mom still has Alzheimer's
Hopefully, my job will improve in 2008, and my medical issues will get resolved. (They aren't life-threatening, just annoying.)

I'd give mine a 2 for most of the year. But it picked up at the end.
Cons
1> broke up with long-term girlfriend
2> Incompetent management coupled with arrogant employees has led to unwanted downsizing.
3> Country's media management continue to suck planetary gonads.
Pros.
1> Back in the dating scene and doing alright.
2> Sold a pitch and will start development next year.
3> Got a 360.
4> reconnected with a lot of old friends.
2008 is looking good though.

Solid 4. Foot and shoulder injuries due to a snowboarding mishap earlier in the year kept me less active than I would have liked, but compared to people with real medical problems it is no biggie at all (just had to cancel the marathon run and haven't been rock climbing in quite some time). Fantastic new girlfriend. Everything going pretty well work-wise, family/friend health-wise.

A 5 for me.
-I moved back to Australia.
-Travel to Egypt, Greece, Las Vegas and New York all of which I had never been too before as well as a trips to Scotland (a few times) and Paris
-I got Engaged
-We got our first house, and somehow managed to find one that we loved and can afford.
-Spent Christmas with my family for the first time in 3 years.
-Have been working from home for the last six months or so.
-Nobody died or fell seriously ill.

I'd put this year at a 3. Not too bad, not really good either, but hopefully next year will be great.

It's been a weird year for me. I'm loving school and had a great summer, but it was a bummer to have a bunch of my best friends graduate last spring and move away. I've also had a kinda crappy fall. I hurt my back pretty bad, fell behind in my classes making school more stressful than usual and had to intervene when my room mate decided to start hitting his girlfriend on Labor Day. I broke a toe in the altercation which brought the cops to the apartment. Also had an apartment fire which left our dining area all torn up for a while. Still, I've made some new friends this fall, reconnected with my best friend going back to grade school and I'm excited about how close I am to graduation. Really, I just need a girlfriend and I'd be all set. On the balance I'd rate 2007 a solid 4. Not the best year ever, but more great stuff happened than bad. Really, the bad things were pretty out of the ordinary for me and I don't really dwell on that stuff. I'm Mr. Bright Side.

I voted a "2" because no one close to me died. Otherwise, it sucked. Two long absences from work for health reasons, ultimately resulting in needing to find a new job. Still no new job. If only I'd understood fully what that psychic I heard on the radio had meant when she said 2007 would be a "challenging" year.

2007 was a 4/5 year, IMO.
Pros
- Banner Year for Xbox 360 (Software wise)
- Got my first job
- Got my first car
- Nobody died
- Cousin recovered from cancer after being told at one point he'll be lucky to be alive in three days.
Cons
- Rough senior year of HS
- College outlook isn't good, despite my decent ACT/SAT scores
- Gary Whitta left PCG (good bye, subscription)
- My Xbox 360 got the red rings, ending my gaming for an entire month
- My PC still sucks... for now.

Cons:

Pros:
Not Me.

the good:
- I can't think of a single "good" thing that happend all year. I guess I could go with everyone's default answer of 'no one I care about died'. Which has described every year for me except 2004.
the bad:
- I also can't really think of any "bad" things, either. I am still stuck in this crappy retail job, which is bad. But it's bad because I've been too damn lazy to look for a new job, and it doesn't help that with any new job I decide to take, I'll be taking a massive pay cut.
I guess I'd rate it a 2. Nothing remarkable in any way happend.
Brendan

I voted 2.
Highlights include : My wife having a miscarriage, interest rates fucking me up the ass sans lube and things at work have got pretty hairy.
But hell, we're still here.

I say 2. I guess I could have said one what with the wife's cancer and mastectomies and my everpresent cynical/angry outlook, but I did not attempt suicide and have not come close to being put in jail. I have 2 beautiful girls and I finally have a job where I feel a sense of accomplishment. I am not sure I would know what a 4 or 5 year would look like. So some of you are saying you are happy? That's crazy talk.

I had a great year.
Got engaged in March.
Bought a PS3 (and yes, that's a good thing)
Upgraded my PC for The Witcher
Got a PSP and the new version of Final Fantasy Tactics (that's a whole point right there, Tactics)
Got rid of my old clunker car before it killed me
Outlined my novel and began writing it
My sister got rid of the crazy stalker husband
I got engaged! How cool is that?
Saved a few thousand dollars for the wedding/honeymoon
Starcraft 2 announced
Got health and dental insurance
Started working out four days a week to get in better shapeThe biggest downside would be that I was constantly sick in the early months of the year and have developed acid reflux this winter, but still, that led to insurance and a generally improved diet. I'd call this a 5 year, and hope next year is as well since that's the year of getting married.

ProsGot the 360 death out of the way

Definitely a 5. My wife and I went through the Year Of Lifestyle Upgrades: new apartment, new TV, new console, new guitar, new furniture. We had been pinching pennies for years so it felt really good to let the purse strings loosen. Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness never saw the 2007 Xbox lineup.

Solid 1.
-No job, so sponging off my parents and racking up CC debt
-No romantic prospects
-too much goddamn WoW (hmm, could these three be related?)
-American political scene, no specifics since this isn't P&R, but I follow politics closely and it was a contributor to:
-depression
I will attempt to list some positives though.
-moved into a cool house with friends
-had a couple dates, which is more than I can say for 2004, 2005, or 2006
-yeah, I guess that's about it
Edit: just to point out that I find it interesting we've got a bell-curve thing going on with the poll.

The 1's are catching up, and are now equal with the 2's.
Only had two friends die this year, only fucked up three relationships. A step up from last year, but it's that alcoholic slowly getting there kind of progress.
Here's to a new year.

I've had a bago year also, but with less alcohol and hair dye and more cancer and orphaned children. Here's to the recently departed. We miss you.
If it weren't for that, this year would have been a 4. As it is, I voted 1.

5 - got married, promoted, and an XBox 360. The wife is looking at me peculiarly as I type this, and comparing the degree to which I love the XBox and her. She's wrong in her guess. Thankfully.

Some years are just shit.
I'm with you. TMI dump.
My car's engine fell apart in January. In February my girlfriend's sister was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain. In June there was a major re-org at my girlfriend's job which saw several people fired and left her no longer enjoying a job she once loved. In July the girlfriend's mother developed severe issues with her wrist. In August my girlfriend's masters thesis was approved, then denied two weeks later because her advisor isn't actually a part of the field she's advising. In October I lost my job. In November her mother was evicted. Oh, and on Christmas eve my girlfriend's sister's boyfriend walked in to tell his favorite aunt that dinner was ready only to find that she'd been dead for twenty minutes. (This same kid lost his grandmother last Christmas and his dad three Christmases ago.)
So.
Yeah.
Fuck 2007.

Jesus. I had a below-average year but I'm always optimistic and still gave the year a 4, but you people and your sob stories are fucking depressing me...
4
Knock on wood, but friends and family were healthy, and mostly happy this year.
Work had its ups and downs, but is getting a little interesting again, they gave me a decent bonus as well. Got on the HDTV bandwagon. Quake Wars was finally released!
My only sister had a son, so I have a nephew. Best of all, back in May, I celebrated the 1st b'day of this guy, my son. :) (Warning, obligatory picture of the kid appended). A pretty good year.

The year was good up until December, when I got the axe from my current job. Making it worse is knowing it was just a salary dump, and in no way a reflection of the work I do, which I always put myself into. However, the rest of the year was decent, it's just ending poorly. I went with a 3.
Erik J.
EDIT: Seriously, though, that picture of mono's kid has to cheer you up a little.
5. Got out of a town I didn't like, back into school and TAing which I love. Took my 82-year-old blind grandmother waltzing on New Year's Eve (she had a blast). The personal front looks promising. Mom seems happier. Nobody died.

Pluses:
Eye Surgery -- and i can still see!
Fought in thailand
Had some pretty good relationships
No one died
Made some pretty good friends at work
The job is pretty good
Minuses:
Broke my foot.
My bro and his GF aren't much fun as roommates
Some fun medical problems, though all resolved now.
My other bro got broken up with, and found out she cheated on him in a terrible way.
Final Verdict 4: I enjoyed this year, i got to experience alot of new things, mostly good.

Overall, I'd say 2007 was quite a good year.
Some pros:
Finished university and got my B.Eng in Civil Engineering
Went to Europe for 6 weeks
Got my career started with pretty much the exact job I wanted at the first place I applied toSome cons:
Some aspects of my personal life could probably improve. (e.g. I think my romantic life stalled at around age 14)
Gotta get out of my parent's house
Fugitive

It was an average, typical year for me, but I rated it lower because I should have been working on making it better than an average, typical year.
