View Full Version : 360 Wheels... MC2 good stuff, or wait for MS?

I picked up Forza2 and it's pretty obvious you need a wheel to do this game justice. I had a Madcatz wheel for my original xbox and it was fine for Forza 1. The MS official 360 wheel is apparently absent from shelves until the end of the month.
So the MS one is wireless, the MCatz is wired but I heard even though it's USB it won't work on a PC for some reason. That kinda sucks. I read some old reviews that said the MC2 didn't support deadzone adjustments and such, but there's been a while since then.
What's the scoop on the MC2 these days?
Also, when is the new revision of the MS wheel going to hit the streets?
I really like the MS wheel, but it can be awkward to use without a good surface. When I plug my 360 into my PC monitor, it clips nicely to the desk and is very stable. On the couch across my legs, or clipped to my low coffee table, not so much.
The build quality and feel is great though. Feedback as well, it's really great with Forza. Dunno about the other wheels or the stock issue.

The MS wheel has very good hardware feel for the money. I sent mine in for the hardware recall 1.5 weeks ago and just got a wheel back yesterday. Too bad it took the 103 DAYS to send the box for RMA in the first place :-)

Will this work for games like Saint's Row and the upcoming GTAIV? How does it input exactly?

I wouldn't want to use it for a game like GTA or Saints row I can't imagine it working well.

Just takes up one of the available wireless quadrants on the 360. Though I don't think you can use it alongside a controller(strangely enough). Like I couldn't race with the wheel in Forza 2 and then use the controller to paint my car without actually turning off the wheel with the guide button first.
I actually forgot about that horrible process....it really was stupid.

So it's bascially only for racing sims that support it. Like not even Burnout?

I believe so. I know that the wheel came with an updated version of PGR3 that supported the wheel, although that may have just been force feedback.

The wheel supports at least Forza 2, PGR 3/4, DiRT and TDU. And I'm sure it supports other driving games as well. Haven't tried it with Burnout though.

Does anybody own a Madcatz MC2?
What does / doesn't that work with?
Most racing games do work with the MS wheel just fine. Burnout Revenge as well, but umm...it also wasn't much fun with the wheel, very unwieldly steering.
I really liked playing NFS: Carbon with it though(minus the drift challenges). It gave a really solid arcade feeling compared to the start-stop Forza/PGR stuff.

Apparently the MS wheel is now $30 cheaper (http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/12/20/555403.aspx). Not sure if this is because a new edition is coming and they want to clear out stock, but hey...not bad.

$99 is the new official price. Though seems like it's bundled with the Forza 2 demo now, instead of PGR3.

Wasn't the bundled PGR a special version? I'd be bummed it was missing.
I'm seriously considering the wheel for $99. Can anyone convince me?

That's too bad, since new customers are already getting Forza 2 with a new Premium or Elite 360.

What do you mean by "special"? If I recall correctly, it's just the patched version that supports the wheel. If you already had the game, it's the same as the update that you would get via Live.

Ah, I didn't know they patched in the force feedback. More temptation....

They also patched FF support into TDU.
